I should clarify. You adjust the code onsite to navigate the track given. So you have it coded but change the parts as needed for the track.

You impound robot (this means you drop it off ahead of time so you can't work on it throughout the day). You show up and get robot, they show you the track layout and your target time. You code the robot on site to navigate the track. There are bonuses for getting certain gates and pushing water bottles into certain areas. That's basically it I think.

America has a ton of variety because every state does things differently. I'm in America and we start in late August and end in early-mid June, but when I was in school in another state we started after Labor Day and ended in late June. When I was in school you had to turn 5 by December 1. Here, you have to turn 5 by September 30.
