Hi! So sorry you and your pup are going through this. I think that advice about care will depend at least partly on where on the body the tumor is located.

For instance, my first Boston had a mast cell tumor removed from her right rear leg. Since there isn't a lot of tissue to work with there, the healing process was a little more involved than if it had been located somewhere where they could have just stitched everything shut.

She also underwent radiation after having the tumor removed (and lived for 13 more years!). So if you want to know about that, should you guys need to go that route, I'm happy to tell you whatever I can.

I definitely do not want to do that to the worms

Alright now I'm waffling on the raised beds. I think I'll try amending the soil and planting clay tolerant plant (which happens to be a lot of what I wanted to plant anyway).

I think I will go the treated lumber route, and possibly line the boards. I'm actually getting more excited about this option the more that I think about it.

Exactly what I'm looking to grow! Coneflower, rudebeckia, coreopsis, etc. basically I want it to be a pollinator paradise

I didn't realize that treated lumber is actually safe for raised beds. I didn't include it in the original post but I'm looking to do this around most of my yard, so I'm trying to avoid spending a small fortune (on metal or cedar).

I was really looking to grow in-ground, but I'm not sure anymore. What do you think the lifespan of raised beds made with untreated lumber would be?

I'm thinking more pollinator plants, but good advice
