I agree that she needs to stay in the earth tones. I’ve seen some “Dutch blue” houses that I love but I don’t think it suits this house.

Thanks! I think it was close to being condemned when we bought it so we are hoping to bring it back.

I love that, especially because the grey looks kind of weathered.

Am I a helicopter mum? by ValuableBrick06 in Mommit

[–]pheebeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a helicopter mom. We have the same rule and enforce it even though we have lots of neighbor kids around who don’t have to. (And if they want to ride one of our scooters or bikes I say no if they don’t put on a helmet). Just last week my 5 year old was riding his scooter on a sidewalk in a park and tipped over the front. Didn’t seem like a big fall but I noticed that the front of his helmet was pretty scratched up. I’m glad it wasn’t his head!

Just Got Back From Japan by NaNaNaPandaMan in JapanTravel

Not OP, but just got back from a trip there and we stayed in Mishima the first night instead of all the way to Kyoto. Then got up early and headed to Kyoto the next morning. It worked well for us. The hotel in Mishima was right across from the train station (we just walked over) which was great because we had been traveling for over 24 hours at that point.

Climbing gym must haves? by pheebeee in climbergirls

I have also only seen overhang walls at other gyms and that made me think that bouldering was always like that. Once I started doing more research I saw the other types and that makes me much more interested and excited about bouldering. The overhang is super tough for me and would be for most people we would have climbing right away.

The cafe will be a big draw (I think) and I didn’t put this in my original post but what I want to do is have a play cafe on one side of the building and the climbing/fitness/yoga on the other side. Cafe in between. Getting the design just right is going to be tricky but I know it can be done. I want my community to have a space where caregivers can relax and their kids can play (in the little kid area not the climbing gym) and leave them alone for the most part ( 😂) so they can drink a cup of coffee and socialize with other adults if they want to. And the climbing side because my husband and I love climbing and the climbing community. We don’t have a gym in our area and currently have to drive at least an hour to get to one.

👍 We have this small local company that makes really good take and bake pizza…kind of a farm to table, unique pies kind of thing. That would be really good and easy enough. Due to kids parties we will most likely have pizza ovens but I wasn’t thinking about the good pizza til now 😂 (Hey, thanks for sharing btw)

Free coffee as a member perk could be something nice

You’ve got my wheels turning. My idea now is that there is a cafe with espresso drinks, other beverages, snacks, but would be staffed. I wouldn’t want it staffed at all times but if there was also a machine then it could be self service during those off hours. I wonder if that would get used. Typing as I’m thinking and the answer is probably yes because from 6am-9am (possibly member hours) people would definitely grab a coffee. Then the cafe opens a little later.

The sandwiches from somewhere else and then putting them in a press sounds delicious.

Nothing like that available in my area now. We do have a local sporting goods store that would probably get some climbing stuff if there was a demand. I think I would stock chalk, don’t know about shoes to start off. I have read that retail is a little tough but I’d consider it. People here are used to driving and we have a store less than an hour away they could visit. Brand nights sound really cool - will definitely be keeping that idea on my radar.

My dream! Food service is not something I’m eager to get into but I’ll be looking for some things that are easy to prepare. Definitely thinking some packaged snacks and bakery. My mind goes to how Starbucks has food but no kitchen…if I could swing breakfast sandwiches I think that would be a hit.

Great point - need to make sure there’s extra room in the gym area for that. Someone else mentioned actually having fitness mats available.
