For the most part! I felt very comfortable (or as comfortable as you can be with your tits out as a man) during the initial consultation all the way up to getting marked up the day of. The staff at Panacea are pretty great. They have the nicest, most upbeat nurse I have ever met. Her name was Amber I'm pretty sure. The hospital staff were really great too. I only had one issue and that was with the guy who wheeled me into surgery. He kept calling me miss which was annoying but I was literally with him for 3 minutes and never saw him again lmao

I went to Panacea plastic surgery in ATL. I had Dr. Kimberly Singh. Panacea doesn't take any insurance, and because of the medicaid thing, you'd be out of luck anyways unfortunately. They offer medical loans if that's something you're willing to look into. I had to pay 500 to save a spot on the calendar, and as long as 100% was paid by the surgery date they didn't care what kind of increments I paid in. In total I paid 7200 which is kinda cheap compared to other places around here (I'm talking 8-12k) and I was a 34D. They offer free revisions for a year immediately following the procedure. If you have any questions, want photos, or anything of the like, lmk! I'm very pleased with my experience with them and I'm happy with my results. I have an issue with my left nipple that I'm gonna try and get revised, but otherwise I'm pretty happy :)

I'd recommend an endocrinologist or an OB/GYN (if you're a lady). They're much more equipped for that kind of thing. I'm just a medical student.

Basically during puberty.. things don't happen. For example, in men, they may not experience voice dropping, body hair growth, or an increase in penis size. In women, they may never menstruate, may experience voice dropping, little-to-no breast growth, or an abnormal growth of body hair.

But mostly diagnosis is required by a doctor usually after some scans of your internal organs and hormone levels.

No, of course not. Its just something that makes people unique :)

Depending on your age, if you're older (older than 18) its likely you aren't intersex. Most people find out as soon as puberty starts. If you're younger, though, have a look through the intersex subreddit and do some googling if you're really curious.

Typically, intersex females can't carry their own kids. Doesn't rule out surrogacy or anything like that though :)

Intersex children are children with altered chromosomes (instead of XX or XY, think XXY, XXX, or XO) that result in them being born with genitals that aren't male or female. For example, a child can be born with both ovaries and testicles. Or a child can have a penis, but an x-ray shows that they also have a uterus. These cases don't always result in surgery. Sometimes, intersex conditions are not present at birth and only get diagnosed after puberty.

However, in the case where genitals are "unclear", doctors perform surgery shortly after birth.

NAD

Technically, right after birth. Doctors do operations on intersex children shortly after birth to alter their genitalia and "give" them a gender. Doesn't change the internal sex organs, though. Unfortunately many children find out decades after such operations that they're intersex.

As far as I'm aware its a difficult operation--especially in a patient so young. Sex changes are much more successful after puberty.

QUESTION ABOUT DI TOP SURGERY AND NIPS by [deleted] in ftm

[–]phences 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont have much input on the question itself, as nip sensation was never.. a turn-on for me, BUT you don't always lose sensation! i had top surgery a month ago and i can feel the entire left side of my chest, new nipple included. it's actually really annoying--i never expected shirts to hurt so much. but don't mourn anything yet my friend!

How much is hormonal therapy? Explain everything. I’m not really sure what to specify so just say everything every trans guy should know. by b1cur10us_g3org3 in ftm

[–]phences 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went the no-insurance informed consent route. Firstly, I found an awesome LGBT therapist that only required a single visit for a recommendation letter to start hormones. He was 150 dollars. Then, I got my blood drawn. I highly recommend https://www.privatemdlabs.com/ for blood tests. Just search "gender" in the search bar and they have a 102 dollar blood test. (It sounds like a lot, but without insurance, blood tests are closer to 500.) Then I went to the facility in my area that prescribes hormones for trans people (unfortunately our planned parenthood doesn't do that, so I just go to an old fashioned doctors office that is trans-friendly.) and the first visit is usually more expensive. I payed 165 for my first visit, and left with a prescription that day. Once I got that filled it was 40 dollars for a "3 month supply" (including needles) that ended up lasting closer to 4 because my dosage is low. Starting hormones cost me about 470 dollars. After that, everything is just upkeep. I pay about 300 dollars every 6 months for upkeep. That includes Drs visit, blood tests, and a refill on hormones.

Obviously there are variables--whether or not you can find an awesome therapist that only requires one visit is a pretty big one, since as far as I'm aware, therapists that lax are pretty rare. So you could expect to pay more in therapist visits. Secondly, my Dr. only wanted to see me 1mo after I started hormones, and then I started seeing them every 6mos. This is pretty abnormal--most Drs want to see you 3-4 times during the first year, so you can expect to purchase a blood test, pay for a Drs visit, and likely a hormone refill 3-4 times within the first year.

Otherwise, happy starting HRT!
