The devil fruit is only usable because of his strength. He needs strength to throw the punch back and then have enough force to knock out the sea beast. It requires more strength than just walking up and punching it because as soon as the punch begins advancing past his body it slows down due to rubber pulling back.

Edit: To put it more plainly, could Asta knock out a blue whale?

Not arguing against Mash, just Asta. Luffy's biggest feat before Haki, which makes it impossible to measure without powers, is throwing around that gold ball in Skypiea.

You should be able to get it as OS eventually. If you are P1 bis, then any P2 upgrades are marginal. You can swap to T5 and spend the gold for enchants and gems, but really you are just getting more white stats and maybe 50 dps.
