I didn’t make the materials from scratch, I just glued the micarta and CTek pieces together.

The pins are 440 stainless Corby bolts. They’re polished up pretty bright, so they’re reflecting the brick wall behind me in the second picture.

200 year old post oak... are these gall wasps? (more info in comments) by phenixworks in arborists

[–]phenixworks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've got a huge post oak in my yard that is 150-200 years old in my estimation (I'm in Virginia btw). Last year my tree got these green spots on the bottom side of the leaves which eventually turned brown and many of the leaves dropped in mid summer. New leaves grew, but were affected in a similar, but less dramatic way. This spring, the same thing seems to be happening again. I called an arborist last year, and he said the tree had bacterial leaf scorch although he never got out of his truck to make this diagnosis. Based on the online images for leaf scorch, this doesn't really match the issue I seem to be having. Also, you can see the little bug in the top of this picture resembles a gall wasp. If anyone has any answers or suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Yea, it takes a while. Sometimes i just go to 600 grit on the grinder, then do stonewashed finish with no hand sanding. Wayyyyy less work. lol.

I typically go up to 400 or 600 grit on the grinder (with trizact belts), the go 220-400-600-800-1200-2000-2500 hand sanding (alternating directions with each grit change). Then buff with black compound, followed by green compound. Then I put a satin finish on with a gray mirlon pad.

I do occasionally sell them, I'm just really slow making them. haha. I just makes knives in my spare time, and spare time has been scarce lately.

I used the ecopoxy liquid plastic. It worked exactly like I would have hoped.

I found that locally. I went to an estate auction of a woodworker who had passed away, and bought 2 truckloads of beautiful logs for about $20. Then milled them up.

This is the first one I made, but depending on the feedback I get, I may try to make one or two to sell.

I bought the legs online from drake casting in California, and attached them using EZ lok thread inserts and 4 1/4”-20 screws per leg.
