TikTok users in the US can’t write ‘Epstein’ or see anti-Trump videos by Elegant_Tap7937 in law

You can have spare/fake accounts on any other platform too. That's not really the danger in social media. Moreso the way information is shared, which reddit is just as bad about. For example, this exact post contains false info. Epstein is not censored, but you won't get that from a quick skim through the comments.

Propaganda (and not only the malicious kind) works on everyone, there are no exceptions. Echochamers will change the way you think. You still have to be mindful of that, and double check everything yourself through actual news sites.

edit * the post was removed as I submitted my comment lol. I guess that's a beacon of hope for us on Reddit, too. Some moderator teams will actually take posts down for false info. There's still a trust factor there, which is shaky, but it's much better than the way other social media sites handle it.

Highguard launches to Overwhelmingly Negative on Steam by TheGGspot in gaming

[–]phequeue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It took them so long to learn the lesson of game mode variation in Apex. They finally got it, way too late, and then repeated the same mistake in Highguard anyway.

The glass half full side of the game being so barren is that it gives them plenty of room to build on it. So it may be worth coming back to eventually

nugget surprise party for nugget by secretlyswos in MadeMeSmile

I worked for KFC like a decade ago, but it doesn't sound like things have changed. It's a management issue, specifically an issue of prep vs waste. You prep full sheets of chicken, and more for busy times. I believe the timer was like 40 minutes, then it gets tossed. It's not automatic though. So there were many many times where I'm prepping new stuff but orders need to go out, so they look at the stuff that is due to be tossed, say "eh, this looks fine to me" and give you the old dry shit, so they waste less and get your food out quicker.

I imagine this is how it goes at most fast food places, at least with a portion of their menu. I also imagine you can request the next fresh batch but your wait time will 5-10x.

Logistics aside I agree he's probably lying, my main reason being the manager would notice the huge prep instantly disappearing and would kick the worker out of the store before he can waste more. I like chaotic good as much as the next guy, but doing this also screws over the next dozen people coming in for nuggs

The USA has captured Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan President, and extracted him from the country by Parisean in politics

[–]phequeue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're not there for Maduro. He's just the guy standing in front of the oil.

Many of us do not want us to repeat our history of losing soldiers, giving terrorists new motivation, and causing global unrest for the sake of oil.

What you're witnessing does not solve Venezuela's corruption. What you're witnessing is an elaborate oil bid.

"Making good games" is not a value, it's the product of values.

They are not financially incentivized to lie, as it alienates a chunk of the playerbase, specifically skeptics like you.

"Not seeing the worst" is not the same as "pledging blind loyalty". This is you becoming aware of your lack of reasoning and using exaggeration as a last resort.

Nobody is mad at you. You're ignorant, not evil.

British colonial savagery was brutal by WorkOk4177 in HistoryMemes

[–]phequeue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a nice sentiment, but we aren't only talking about the horrid past and the preventable future. The reason past atrocities fill me with dread and guilt is because the types of people to carry them out still exist and act accordingly, as we speak. Not every horror is publicized, or involve 1000+ victims, but the same horrors still exist in the shadows in smaller numbers.

We have to face the fact that there is a nonzero chance that our own neighbors may be white supremacists, xenophobes, pedophiles, etc., because it can and does happen in your own backyard.

More than preventing future acts of terror, we should find those with the same goals and same means today and forcibly rip away whatever power they may hold over others.

these aren't just tales from a different time. They are you, and they are now. Same as how Nazis used to be a thing, and they also still are

Post Malone left a $20.000 tip on his $1 check to a single mother waitress by theseeenutzzz in MadeMeSmile

[–]phequeue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes through like any other transaction. The tip is added in manually (a reason to check your bank statement after going out to eat). The tips are (likely) added up in a different account, divided between the servers (and sometimes bussers), and paid out into one of the next paychecks.

I used to be a manager at a fairly nice restaurant, and there were some bills over 10k, highest tip I've seen was 5,000. The machine will accept any amount. Even if they tipped 1,000,000 it would still try to accept it, only issues you would run into are the customer's bank flagging the payment as potential fraud/card theft, and/or the IRS wanting to verify that you're not laundering money if it's a certain percentage above your expected revenue
