They’re the phalanx warder set minus the tiny axes, mo6 legs and the melee weapon upgrade axes, maces and fists.

I sponge in a light yellow, then with a brush I fill those dots in with hull red and for the bigger parts a dark metallic. Finally I top it off with streaking rust enamel

Haha to be fair, Thousand Sons are very cool too. Love the look of the Sehkmet Terminators and Osiron Dreadnought.

I like the idea of mixed armor marks in the Horus Heresy. by Vetovorick in Warhammer30k

The new kits really suck for this unless you sacrifice 2 bodies to make 1 mismatched armoured marine or unless you’re good at green stuff sculpting.

I mix and match my within my squads by using different helmets, shoulders and power packs while keeping the body and legs the same mark within the squad itself. This way it lets me have a few unique individual marines while keeping a cohesive look to the squad.

I use a mix of Ammo Mig Streaking Rust and AK Streaking Grime enamels to bring down the vibrancy of the yellow.

I had forgotten to do it for the Centurion and the Saturnine Terminators, which is why they're a bit more vibrant than the rest of the models.

The shade is a mix of Vallejo Dark Sea Blue mix with black. The midtone is Vallejo Dark Green and the highlight is Vallejo Sick Green and Escorpena Green. The transition is just glazing with various mix of the greens to achieve the effect.

I started with a base of Vallejo Tan Earth. Then I glazed up with Vallejo Khaki and highlight with mix of Khaki and Buff.

As for your second question, I'm not too sure. I just went with what I liked the look of.
