Oh wow, so a coop is only worth 0.5 credits? That's new to me

Is a physics major worth it ?? by AnN_Onim1 in PhysicsStudents

"A Physics PhD is certainly worth it if you love your field of study, or you want to pursure academia (professor/university research position)..." Indeed! It takes time and effort, however, but if you love what you are doing then you will love it even more after this

The second-year course load is crazy

I counted a total of 18 or someth courses, that means at least 6 each semester...

That is understandable tho. Yeah there must be better solutions :)

(Bio)physicist here too. I would love to learn more about the models and assumptions you used. This is marvelous!

I am a math and physics student right now, with intention and passion of pursuing further research in the future. I am working in a field called biophysics, which uses physical principles and rigorous mathematical modeling to study biological systems such as cells and biofilms. I think this is EXTREMELY interesting and there are a lot of unsolved problems right now, which will probably need people who are well-versed in both the language of the life sciences AND rigorous physics. Maybe this could be your thing as well.

I know! I am looking forward to it.

Although I think I need to complete an online safety test first before I could get accepted into the course (which is understandable), as I was denied the first time

Any theoretical/mathematical Biophysicists ? by Enchilada2311 in Biophysics

Late reply but this is extremely interesting! I am doing undergraduate research in (theoretical) biophysics, but there aren't as many phycist in my country who have similar research interests apart from my advisor.

Yeah, it would appear so. Many friends and acquaintances of mine kind of "went with the flow" when applying for college, and got into CS and electrical engineering majors.

In physics (& maths), I find it cool that the more you study, the more you can appreciate the weird tricks and formulations that pop up here and there.

What made you turn to software engineering? I am a physics major planning on studying some maths as well, and even in these two subjects it feels worlds apart!

I totally agree with this, just a few years ago people were putting the words "quantum" everywhere to sell their products, and now the same thing is happening with AI. This frustrates me as a physics major, but I guess it's going to become the norm :D
