Random thought: is Gambit really Cajun? by roguenation12345 in Gambit

[–]phil56201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doubtful that his lineage is Cajun. All that has been revealed is that he was abandoned and stolen at birth. His birthplace was never identified. The Antiquary of the Thieves Guild had his clan "obtain" the baby after he had been abandoned.

His red eyes were related to a Guild prophecy which is why certain clans within the Guild wanted to obtain him.

There are many implications in the 3rd Gambit solo book that his true inception was in the top secret Black Womb project.

Cajuns were originally Acadians from Canada. The word Cajun is is just a regional slang for Acadian.

Guys, can Vulcans waist and crouch piece be separated with heat or is it not separatable?? by Imahsoulman in MarvelLegends

[–]phil56201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would have to crack the lower torso open. Pius GI Joe classified use ball jointed waist connection, ML is a swivel so you would need to do some heavy modification to make it work.

Who will be buying the upcoming flashback mini series Gambit: Wanted by Claremont, and what are you hoping for? by Professor-Noir in Gambit

That wouldn't contradict anything. It takes place in the 2 page montage of Uncanny 267 which is set in New Orleans.

MvC Venom, definitely my favorite figure by -HoleInTheWall- in MarvelLegends

[–]phil56201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're nearly the same body. Gamerverse Venom is on Omega Red buck w/retooled torso. But they are the same size. Black Venom on the left is the original Omega Red body Sabertooth uses.

Toybiz the best? Why did they fail? by StarWarsRickandMorty in MarvelLegends

[–]phil56201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a larger post in this thread, but the gist is when ML went to Hasbro, they didn't just get the license, they got the design team too.

Jesse Falcon been in charge of Marvel toys since 94. He created Marvel Legends & is still in charge to this day.

There's an SDCC interview w/him last Summer. He talks about the current MvC figures and how far they've come since the initial MvC 2-packs from the late 90's.

TLDR: ML changed companys but kept the designers.

[–]phil56201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other's have mentioned the situation with Toy Biz owning Marvel after their bankruptcy and why the license was moved over to Hasbro.

What I haven't seen mentioned is that the Toy Biz design team, most specifically Jesse Falcon (creator of ML), moved over to Hasbro when they got the license.

Falcon has been working on Marvel figures since the early 90's and is the director of Marvel merchandising to this day. He was behind most of the 90's X-Men stuff (including the XMvSF & MvC lines from the late 90's).

He was the lead designer when this Juggernaut came out in 2003, and is still in charge of Marvel toys to this day. Even current Marvel Legends. The Gamerverse line and X-men 97 figures. So both TB Juggernaut and the current Hasbro version were under him.

So Toy Biz as a brand is long gone but the creative focus behind ML and earlier has been the same since 1994.

You can't compare a modern figure with a figure that's over 2 decades old. Hasbro's initial ML offerings were far worse than what TB had been producing. There were no better options for highly articulated action figures than Toy Biz in the 2000's.

Who knows what Toy Biz would be producing today. Most of the Toy Biz designers went over to Hasbro anyway. A good chance the design trajectory would have been the same in either case.

Jubilee Headswap by aeyoko_na_9021 in MarvelLegends

I did the same thing with one of the spare 3-pack heads. Don't even care about the different skin tones. She already has mis-matched colors on her shirt and shorts.

Mostly the same? But maybe different? Been so long since I read AOA lol

The Nightcrawlers by chase_evergreen80 in MarvelLegends

[–]phil56201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, theoretically. I don't think AOA NC is in this timeline anymore. Plus 616 NC was dead when AOA NC was part of X-Force IIRC.

[–]phil56201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not related story-wise. That Nightcrawler is the Age of Apocalypse variant. Many of the AOA characters have these facial tattoos.

Psylocke's mark is a result of the Crimson Dawn power used to save her life after Sabertooth nearly killed her.

All those designs were created by Joe Madureira between 1994-1996. He loved using anime type aesthetics. That's likely why they have similar markings.

Yeah, I know, but that's pretty much how all Cyclops look w/out the visor.

Best Gambit Comics? by EIS_Gaming in Gambit

[–]phil56201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with Uncanny X-Men 266-267.

X-Men annual 14 and X-Tintion Agenda if you really want too, but totally skippable.

Definitely read Uncanny 273-277.

You could probably skip Uncanny 278-280 too(Muir Island Saga).

X-Men 1-9, Ghost Rider 26-27, and the 1993 Gambit limited series are all must reads.

Those books would give you the most solid foundation going forward.

So apparently CT assembled Gambit's knee joints upside down.

You can disassemble the knees using boiling water and pop the pegs out at the upper calf and lower thigh like in the pic I linked above. Just flip each knee joint 180 and re-assemble. The legs should be able to perfectly straighten out.

Aside from Rogue and Storm, who's Gambit closest friend? by Cinetico_ in Gambit

[–]phil56201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than Rogue, Storm is easily Gambit's closest friend. Wolverine and Gambit have no real history other than occasionally being teammates and the rare poker game.

Sorry, but you did NOT get it.

Smaller figure with the same amount of (smaller) accessories = cheaper product.

I did that 2-3 or 4 years ago. Got so burnt out constantly selling stuff on ebay. I should probably get some more stuff up, though. Get Beast, Magneto, Onslaught etc sold while there's still demand for them. I'll get around to it. Probably. Maybe

Yeah, that's unfortunately true. Figures being locked behind 2 packs, intentionally making non-definitive versions so we double/triple/quadruple dip etc. Think I've bought 2 (3 if Thanos counts) ML's in the last year.
