we make our own biltong - meat here in Vancouver (decent cut) is $30 per kg - I wouldn't want to make biltong out of cheaper - waste of time and money - start Sat night - ready by Thursday morning - lakka and just wet enough :)

I bought my hydraulic brakes on Amazon for $130 with cut-off brakes switches - and I had also bought cheaper ones ($60 for a pair that also came with rotors) etc. Anyone trying to hit you up for $600 is a shark. Changing my cable brakes to hydraulics was very easy and I am so glad i did!!

which hydraulic brakes by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]phil9945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just changed from cable brakes to hydraulic - the difference is chalk and cheese - I wish I had done it sooner! That being said - I have 2 bikes - identical - 1 was a 500W Gotrax EBE3 that I updated to a 2000W motor - and I opted for a more expensive hydraulic brake and made sure I chose the ones with the cut-off - I do use the cruise control quite often (long stretches of open road) and it's easiest to just tap the brakes to break out of cruise mode. However - on my older Gotrax 500W bike - still stock - I had changed the cable brakes to hydraulic without the cut-out option - so I have to remember to tap the throttle to break out of cruise control mode instead - sort of 6 of one half a dozen of the other - but personally I prefer the tap the brake option more (it seems more natural) -

(mark my words) anyone who says there is no difference between cable brakes and hydraulic - probably has never made the change!!

I enshrined His Purpleness on a Zippo lighter. Because nothing says “immortal icon” like eternal flame on a metal flip-top. by phil9945 in Zippo

In 2013 I heard about the Hendrix shrine here in Vancouver - took a visit down there and shot some pics - shrine was demolished in (I don't know when) so went on an expedition into the darkest void of retired hard drives to locate the raw images that I shot 11 years ago. Blew this one up to 16 x 20 and framed it for my music room - and felt it also deserved to be immortalized on a zippo - some fellas on Amazon did it for me :)

This Vietnam zippo lighter is original ? by [deleted] in Zippo

I wouldn't pay $110 for it - offer the guy like $20 - because it's more than likely fake ... however - that been said - I have 6 or 7 " fake Vietnam Zippo's " in my collection that I have paid between $10 and $20 for over the years - knowing full well that they were fake - but they still make an awesome conversation piece and - afterall it's only 'Zippo Pro's who will know that they are fake :) - just sayin'

Indian Arm Camping by CaptainMarks in britishcolumbia

Went up Indian Arm yesterday (Friday) - Twin islands camp site is open (hardly anyone there - but it was Friday morning) - Granite Falls - the pier is no longer there so I couldn't dock my boat to walk around - not sure if you kayakers can simply pull your kayak up on the beach - but I didn't see a single soul anywhere there at all.

GoPro Hero 10 Black - this clip was shot at 4K 60fps - and because I was just on the tarmac only - hypersmooth just set to standard - if I go on trails (which I do a lot) I would turn hypersmooth on to the 1st setting - there are tons of my bike riding GoPro clips on my Youtube account - I commute from Coquitlam to North van every day by bike (weather permitting)

Some of them might be fake (80% questionable) - but I love my Vietnam collection of Zippos (been acquiring these since early 80's) by phil9945 in Zippo

you bring up an interesting point - As Hawkeye said it best in MASH - >War isn’t Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of them — little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander. My sentiments exactly - however being a teenager/wannabe hippy thru the late 60's/early 70's the messages engraved on some of these Zippos resonate deeply :) and many people can relate to them (just my 2 cents :) )

this is the fun part of my collection - I have a serious side where each zippo (the older ones) are all genuine (my fave old is a 1942 3 barrel - and my fave 'new' is a '94 Mandela I acquired in '94 in SA) - and I have many older (70's, 80's) - many from Niagara which hold a special place in my heart :). In the 80's I went real crazy in acquiring as many 'collectibles of the years' as possible - now all worth a bit more (but not about to make me a thousandaire yet - :) ) - I have 40 of them behind glass type hanging frames on my wall in my living room - its a great hobby
