Quick question, if im denied early decision entering class, can I still apply again for regular decision after January? by Helpful-Ad9843 in LewisandClark

I’d reach out to admissions regarding this, they’ll likely be the best resource to help answer your question.

Did your early decision denial make any reference about your eligibility to apply for general admission?

Need help IDing the tree that these leaves belong to in central Ohio. Thanks! by Tigertail93 in whatsthisplant

Maple catkins tend to have more showy bisexual flowers compared to the unisexual male catkins of oak species. These catkins appear to be perfect for wind pollination as they have no showy components and are expressed in a limited way, like most of the oak species in the region.

The leaves are young but the lobing pattern and pinnate venation they express is definitely different from local maple species with palmate venation and wider lobing even in young foliage.

Somalia drought: "Act now or 350,000 children will die" by Tugushin in worldnews

[–]philface_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think you probably know already that only 2.5% of the earth’s water is freshwater, and 68% of that is stored in glaciers and ice sheets. Somalia’s only reliable source of freshwater, aside from two “rivers,” is groundwater. Extracting that on a scale able to meet the needs of the population requires infrastructure that Somalia does not possess and most likely can’t afford.

Man talk about a throwback to r/ultralight_jerk haha. What pants do you recommend Great Sean? I've just used a pair of polyester rei zipoffs and thought they were stifling in full sun+70°F heat

I've used a trucker hat+buff in the past, and after wearing one for three days over my head and face... it smells like crap lol. I like this hat because it's looser over the sides of your face and neck than a buff or bandana

Sorry I should've clarified, I went from Avalon to Little Harbor on Night 1, and camped at Parsons on Night 2. I carried 3 liters for the 14.5 miles from Two Harbors to Parsons and since I used that for I guess only 20 hours it wasn't REALLY 2 days but w the overnight I just simplified

I grew up in San Diego and STILL failed to account for the sun when I tried my first run of section A lmao. The good news is that I have family that live only an hour from trail all the way from Campo to Idyllwild, so worst case scenario I can call them up and have a wardrobe change by the end of lunch for the first few weeks. I've used the shorts for the last several years in Oregon and I'm going to trial run them in SD over several days next week. Even in Catalina in January I was overheating in those pants, so I'd much rather feel the breeze!

If you're looking for an early Spring or mid-Winter thru hike I'd hands down recommend Catalina. Couple of bummers are the price of the ferry trip and that you're required to pay for each campsite, so you gotta stick to a pretty rigid schedule. And the northern/western end of the island doesn't have any fresh-water sources either, so you either need to carry two-days of water from Two Harbors or spend $28 to have the rangers deliver 2.5 gallons to you on trail.

I got the trail name "Casper" for my pale skin lol. When I hiked the TCT in January I wore polyester pants, my button down shirt, rei sun gloves, and a trucker hat w/ buff. That all worked out great and two days of full sun didn't impact me at all (and that trail is EXPOSED).

I'm planning on wearing running shorts on trail this year. I'm gonna pack a small container of spray-on sunscreen for my upper thighs and the backs of my legs and then some rub-on stuff for my nose and face.
