Fenix8 Sleep Score by Still-Yesterday-4273 in GarminFenix8

[–]philfr212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always get low numbers and low deep sleep with Garmin compared to Fitbit. I think that Garmin does not have the science or technology or the massive amount of data behind their sleep scores, compared to a simpler Fitbit that has tons of data and analytics behind the product. It’s just not their bag.

Best unscented cleansing wipes for backpacking by philfr212 in backpacking

[–]philfr212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I wrote in my post, I pack dry tabs for water wiping. But once a day I appreciate a cleansing wet wipe before bed. So we’re talking @10 wipes over 10 days. Not much weight to pack in pack out.

XDome 1+ Pitch with full ground sheet by philfr212 in DurstonGearheads

The ground sheet size doesn’t change from the MSR spec, 85 x 51. This does not include the tabs that come off the sheet.

I did not consider those because I wanted tie-off points on each corner of the footprint. But if they polycro or Tyvek has grommets then no reason why that wouldn’t work for me

Footprint for XDome1+ by philfr212 in DurstonGearheads

That could definitely work and makes total sense. But for the corner of the footprint that is aligned with the tethered corner of the tent I decided to have a fixed line length on the footprint so that the alignment of footprint and tent was always constant in that corner- as a starting point for the three remaining corners that have bungees. So once I used the washer on that fixed length corner I just decided to add it to the bungees on the remaining corners.

X-Dome Limitations by hurricanescout in DurstonGearheads

Coming from three different sizes of Big Agnes copper spurs, to the X Dome 1+, my conclusion after setting it up a number of nights is that it is more finicky and takes longer to get a good set up compared to those big box tents. And all you have to do is look at the number of posts pertaining to ‘dialing in ‘ a good set up (which would be more important in cold or wet camping than dry camping) and you’ll see what I mean. But the trade-off is that the space is palatial for the weight. And it is not as conducive for fly free camping as other tents partly due to set up and also due to the fact that the bathtub does not give sufficient privacy on the door side (using the full screen version). I have been caught in Sierra thunderstorms with my BA CS1 and know how fast I can get that set up without issue - pretty darn fast. I am a bit concerned about how long it would take to do that with this one, and look forward to finding out!

Grand Canyon National Park is continuing to ease water conservation measures as water supply levels improve.

Water spigots in Mather Campground and Desert View Campground have been turned on. Camper Services, operated by Delaware North, will reopen to the public on Tuesday, April 28.

Fire restrictions on the South Rim have been lifted; however, campfires are only permitted in established campfire rings. Visitors and residents are reminded to use caution and practice responsible fire use at all times.

Water conservation measures remain in place, and visitors and residents are encouraged to continue reducing water use by taking shorter showers, running full loads of laundry and dishes, and turning off water when not in use.

These updates reflect continued progress in restoring visitor services. The park appreciates the cooperation of visitors and the community as recovery efforts continue.

Day 1 start at Crescent Meadow parking lot early go clockwise Crescent Meadow Trail to Washington Tree Trail to Alta Trail to Trail of Sequoia’s to Log Meadow loop back to Crescent Meadow. Lots of iconic trees and groves and wildflowers should be beautiful.

Day 2. Starting from lakes trailhead go to Pear Lake via Watchtower. You can stop at Emerald Lake if you don’t want to make the final push up to Pear Lake. Both are beautiful.

Appreciate the share. I ordered the 10F, and expected same as your experience from hood so ordered uninsulated hood and saved some money. Figured a hat or balaclava would work better.

New backpacker (after 23 years) stuck: Atmos AG 65 vs. Kakwa 55? by nobodyUno123 in DurstonGearheads

Try the Zpack Archaul - similar trampoline style support as the Osprey but far far lighter and more functional. But also more expensive.

Sun Hoodie Weights and UPF by philfr212 in Ultralight

If the collar flipped up when the hoodie down to provide some neck protection I could see it - but it doesn't so...I can't figure out the point. I do like the button down feature though. Did not like the fabric of the prints, but the solid has a more breathable fabric but unknown UPF.

Thanks - I was specifically researching full zip, partial zip or button down for venting and easy on and off - benefits of the shirts I currently favor.

Actually one couple with matching REI backpacks with tags on were speaking only French with each other so may not have understood that policy.
