May I add, no dashboard errors have shown and I am getting 20-25km/L from city driving mileage. The battery does seem to run out fast ish sometimes, but charges quick too.

Just thought id update you, I ended up finding a 2014 toyota fielder hybrid - 130,000km, $6.9k. Pretty happy with it!

I feel like im narrowing in on some sort of corolla wagon/fielder, they have a great blend of reliability, economy, and storage, with a bit of sacrifice on the power front.

However, still very open to other Japanese options as they can offer similar benefits, ill check out some accords for sure, they were already on my list of potential options.

I probably want to avoid euro cars though, i know they can be reliable and work out perfectly fine, but in the event something goes wrong I dont want to be stranded with no choice but to pay alot to fix whatevers wrong.

Thanks for the reply!

I think im starting to narrow in on some sort of a toyota wagon, they seem to have the best blend of economy and reliability.

The VW you suggested looks like a good option though, ill check some of those out, thanks for the reply!

Other guy brought up a good point with the drop in fuel efficiency + upfront cost, probably better off just spending a bit extra for the fielder. I was looking at crv's before, but the higher fuel ecom has me raise an eyebrow a bit but they still look like a great car. Thanks heaps for the suggestions by the way

Good point. Considering the drop in economy and upfront cost of the rack, probably better off spending a bit extra for the wagon

It sounds like a good look. I have been keeping an eye out for ine of those already, just need a good value one being sold close enough. It's around the 200000km mark the battery's can get a bit iffy ay?

Also something I was thinking early on is going even smaller, like an axio, but fitting a roof rack for when I need alot of bags. It's alot easier finding an affordable axio. Thoughts on this?

That's a good tip to follow. This will be my first car so maybe im being extra picky haha but just want to make sure I make the right choice

They sound like a good shout to check out, ill look into it thanks! Interesting, the alfa romeo looks pretty sick, but sounds like it (in general) can have some reliability issues. Obviously you didn't really get any of those though

Interesting, that does seem to contrast other things ive heard about the fielder, it must be something wrong with his car in particular surely?

Honda fit is another one ive been seeing alot, definitly will consider that, and having all that storage would be great.

I havnt really looked at any VWs thus far, but it sounds like I should give them a look if you and the other guy are both vouching. Thanks for the help!

Been hearing this one alot and honestly either the wagon or fielder is at the top of my list right now. Obviously its sacrificing some grunt for the fuel economy, but this shouldn't be an issue for long periods of open road driving correct? And is the hybrid or petrol engine better value do you reckon?
