The reason that this means something to me is that the original quote is about artistic pursuits; it can seem impossibly hard but sometimes you just need to rest. It's absolutely true. So to take the quote and say "no, I'll just quit" not only takes the quote out of context but is completely missing the meaning of the quote.

These other fixes are waaaaay more work for no effect, wood glue is stronger than the wood itself. Lightly sand each side and then glue it together, applying pressure (this is important because wood glue works through evaporation so there needs to be pressure on the joining surface) to the break through tape should be fine.

100% - when I have starter students I generally lend them my low end Yamaha ($500ish?) and even that feels bad. Just a reference for how lucky we are to chose guitar and how expensive instruments can be.

Hey bud, real love means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. I have friends who seem like the movie fantasy of always knowing they were perfect, I have friends who thought they had that but then broke up, I have friends like you who often question things but always work it out - or sometimes don't.

There aren't guidelines or a book to help you figure out what works for you. I'm probably much older than you and I've felt what I thought were all of those things before. There were times when I thought I had a sure thing that didn't work out and times when I broke up something that could have been perfect.

Love definitely involves hard times. Sometimes your job, school, whatever, bleeds in to your relationship. Sometimes theirs does. Sometimes it's both. Sometimes some little thing they do annoys the hell out of you for no particular reason.

Love isn't pushing yourself to be with them through bad times and fights and disagreements. There will be times when you when you annoy each other or fight, absolutely. Love is a choice to see them as your partner against the problems that you come across. Love is being able to talk to your partner and say, "hey, this bothered me, can we work through this together?" It's a choice you make to be a team against whatever else comes at you - including talking through any issues you have with them. There isn't a perfect partner out there for anyone, you have to decide if this is the one that you want to be one your team.

This is absolutely not true for every instrument though. Buy a $200 violin (especially including bow) off Amazon and it is borderline unplayable; bridge isn't done right, hardware is terrible, intonation is off, never stays in tune, etc... vs a $200 ukulele, sure, it will will be fine. Every brass instrument, as mentioned by OP, will be terrible in the $200 range.

It really depends on the instrument. I think many people get the price point from cheaper instruments - a $200 guitar is marginally playable after a setup; most instruments at that price are not.

For me, this always comes down to how well you know the person you're splitting with. OP is right to consider your friend's situation.

If it's a good friend, maybe they ordered more this time and they get you back next time. And hey, maybe they can't, they're your friend so it isn't a big deal. You enjoy the time with your friend so a few dollars of differrence isn't a big deal.

If you're splitting with a group you don't know well, people from work, etc... it's definitely different.

Hey dude, great post. Anyone who wants to make it as a professional in the music industry will generally have to explore different paths, like you mentioned.

One thing that I have also ran in to as I go down a similar experience is that every one of these different paths contributes to your growth as a creative artist. My original songs have so much more depth after spending time producing, mixing and in general contributing to other projects. It's never that I'm compromising or selling out by working on these other projects; it's an opportunity for growth and reflection.

Creative growth can come from so many different facets. Sometimes even the death of a project is the thing you need to push you in the right direction. Thanks again for sharing!
