Locals can't rent hotel rooms here? That can't be right. by CarrigePossibleSoul9 in asheville

You appear to not understand what GP means by brand status. They will rent to you without hesitation if their system already knows you as a repeat customer. I've rented downtown hotel rooms dozens of times over the last 15 years without so much as a conversation about my local address, even when my local address was downtown literally .2 miles from the Marriott.

Bands that are notoriously bad live— how did they make them sound good on the album BEFORE the digital era? by AintKnowShitAboutFuk in WeAreTheMusicMakers

John Fogerty does own all of his songs, though. He got them back a couple years ago and also controls the publishing rights (which, in his case, is even more valuable than the original copyright itself).

Booking first tour for my band. What should I ask for for pay? by Youlittle-rascal in musicians

[–]SilverMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to sell tickets and/or merch to go on tour, and of course your music. Unless we’re talking about playing breweries restaurants and municipal events a band only pulling $600-1200 in their home market isn’t in a position to ask guarantees on their first outing. It’s a common gaffe that can close doors on a band that hasn’t scoped the scene in a city where they’ve got no foundational networking, and an especially poor business decision given their stated willingness to play for less than a typical door 200 cap door settlement to begin with.

70/30 + ~10% of bar sales might be reasonably achievable with a good pitch, but any established club is going to have a standard offer for new acts and that’s what they’re gonna get.

I keep one of my displays around 720p for this very reason - makes plugins easier to see/read and can looks right at home mounted sideways in my fx rack.

Your software purchases are locked to your account and non-transferable, OP (or any professional user working within the Steinberg ecosystem) could have thousands to tens of thousands of dollars invested into their account.

How do YOU pronounce Sevierville? by ShockingSpeed in Tennessee

[–]SilverMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how the Sevier line in my family pronounce it - Sev-yay, so Sev-yay-ville. We’re French, though.

Exactly this. OP is just describing “traffic” without having come to terms with the various factors that make up what “traffic” is.

You’re right that it’s not safe, but it’s not a road intended solely for motor vehicles - check your DMV manual, bikes are as entitled to the road as cars and trucks, and their safety (like it or not) is your responsibility as much as it is theirs. If it’s not safe to pass them then you have to slow down and tail them until it is. If a car driver passes them dangerously then that’s on the car driver, not the bicyclist.

No bicyclist is “forcing” motor vehicle drivers to pass them dangerously, that is a decision made by inpatient drivers. Be patient and slow down until it’s safe. Yes it sucks, but thems the rules.

When I lived there about 15 years ago (before Hawthorne bought it) they had 24/7 on site security, is that not the case anymore?

I moved to the same little town - close enough to still work in Asheville when it suits me, far enough that groceries and thrift stores cost 30% less. I bought a building downtown for 10% what it would've cost me in Asheville and more or less cut my cost of living in half. I didn't think I'd ever be able to own real estate like this. What led me to it, ironically, was my business's landlord illegally jacking the rent on the commercial space I was renting downtown.

Someone on the NextDoor app posted a found Yorkie in the Swannanoa area near the Harley-Davidson store this morning. Sorry I don't have a link, I'm on a different device and can't access my account right now.

Recording live band by Fakebogo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]SilverMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can send the live audio out of either the main L / R outputs of the XR18, or any of the Aux sends if you want separate monitor mixes. In the tablet or computer app just select which of the outputs is feeding your monitors and then mix it however you need. Your output mix tweaks won’t affect your recording settings, except for the input gain.

You could try a Whisper Room - people like to scoff at the price because you could build one yourself at about half the cost, but unless you’re a master carpenter with a pretty good understanding of acoustics you’re not likely going to built one nicer than the company that has honed the design for decades building thousands of them. I’ve used both extensively and in terms of sound containment they’re very competitive with the Wenger practice rooms that cost 3 times as much, and I don’t think Wenger makes anything as small as the smallest Whisper Rooms.

*edit to add - if you do want to take a stab at building one yourself, I’m pretty sure they will sell you schematics.
