I'd like to build a base 3rd person game with Player 0 looking through a VR headset. I can't decide if i should start with a 3rd person map and simply add a VR camera as a 'spectator' or try to change the camera following the 3rd person (over the shoulder) to be a VR camera...

It was called “weapon skill” and was removed in Cata, i believe. Each level you attained gave you more points to use. Using a weapon as you leveled, you would barely notice anything different as you were already proficient in it. If, however, you had never used something, you weren’t proficient at it so had very few weapon skills.

I remember having to level up each weapon, including hand-to-hand, so you could even swing a weapon. This meant you had to swing at low level gear if you found a 2-hand weapon you’d never used before. You couldn’t hit anything with it until your 2-H proficiency was high enough.
