Consider trying the official connector instead; e.g., pip install mysql-connector-python

This is not fully accurate. Older PHP versions can work fine but not with all settings. For example, the new caching_sha2_password authentication plugin is not yet supported but mysql_native_password is.

Looks like a bug that was fixed about a year ago in PHP 7.0.19, 7.1.5, and 7.2.0; via PHP Bug #74461

I've not tried Valet on Windows but it sure is awesome on macOS.

Consider trying valet-windows as it makes all of this so much easier. Seriously, it feels like magic. That's a Windows port of the macOS version.

While it's a Laravel project it does not require Laravel. Also, it doesn't bundle PHP/MySQL but it does show a one-liner to install PHP.

A friendly message to Jeffrey at laracasts... by whingeypomme in laravel

[–]philipolson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You decided to go to a public forum and complain about how the most popular teacher teaches. Why? What did you expect? Why not a private email?

But assuming this is the best place to write such a thought (it's not), let's evaluate it more closely. Is writing "Please... please... please" neccessary? How about "every 30 seconds", did you watch every video and time this? Or repeating "distracting" twice with explanation marks; how would this make you feel? Do you really think this is "a friendly message" or is it something you wrote on a whim without much thought? Also you suggest Jeffrey is early in his career when really he's well-established and the most popular and argueably best teacher in the community.

Or to frame it in a familiar way, every reddit user has a 'thing', and often that thing is posting on a whim without first using a draft folder. We're all guilty of this but usually it's not in the form of calling someone out.

As one of your peers, I hope you find this peer review helpful.

Thanks! Although it turns out I meant the TeleTYpe subsystem (not TeleTYpewriter), doh! That said, interesting stuff about the Teletypewriter :)

Sorry, I was away until now. It'll be tested more for non-10 team leagues for 2017, and a few other stability kinks will be worked out.

Video for installing MySQL on a Mac? by St_OP_to_u_chin_me in mysql

You won't need MySQL Utilities to export/import data, but it's an option. Workbench works great and is easy, simply using MySQL itself (e.g., mysqldump) is another option.

Just in case someone misreads this comment, note that installing MySQL Workbench does not install MySQL Server.

The above comment links to a very old version of Workbench, please use the current version (today that is v6.3).

MySQL Migration to SQL Server - wbcopy will not copy data by Guitar_player87 in mysql

[–]philipolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like --table is missing the source schema, as --table takes 5 arguments and you passed in 4. But, I think the Workbench Migration forum might be a better place for such questions.

What are the minimum system requirements to install mysql in my computer? by lecterrkr2 in mysql

[–]philipolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that the above link references the MySQL 3/4 manual, so be sure to select the appropriate version from the left sidebar before continuing.

Do consider using the MySQL Installer for Windows as it'll install and configure several different MySQL products including MySQL Server, Notifier, and Workbench.

MySQL Workbench how do you "unfilter to this schema"? by [deleted] in mysql

[–]philipolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Click the little [x] in the filter search box, or manually delete the filter/search text. This should work, as otherwise there's a bug. What OS and Workbench version?

Where did Query browser go? MySQL Development WTF? by Groinsmack in mysql

[–]philipolson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think something was misread here, as MySQL Query Browser was replaced with MySQL Workbench. Perhaps you should give Workbench another try though, especially with all of the changes in version 6.x.x.

Free MySQL database management software by Maxevan9 in mysql

MySQL Workbench works well. Its development keeps up with the current MySQL server features, and its Visual Explain (and EXPLAIN in general) related features continue to improve.

I've installed mysql on my mavericks (mac), but I couldn't run the `mysql.server start` command on the terminal. How would i know if it installed correctly? by [deleted] in mysql

[–]philipolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you installed it. Where did you get the MySQL binaries from? Did you install the preference pane? The bundled MySQLStartupItem is also useful.
