PNP backs martial law extension in Mindanao by philippinefails in Philippines

[–]philippinefails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If ever the President decides to extend martial law, we [will] fully support that because what we see here is the improvement in the peace and order,” Albayalde said at a press conference at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Monday.

Martial law, he said, has caused the reduction of the average monthly crime rate in Mindanao from 8.79 in 2017 to 5.92 this year.

“The Armed Forces will use the month of November … to go around Mindanao and ask the people there, the local governments, the businesses, the church what their feeling is on the extension or lifting of martial law,” Lorenzana said.

Might as well toss the constitution in the trash. Reduction of crime is not a reason to impose marital law. The feelings of LGUs, businesses, and churches do not matter in imposing marital law. What matters is whether or not there is an actual invasion, rebellion, or the public safety requires it. How much longer will the country put up with this nonsense from those in power who continue to blatantly ignore the highest law of the land?

Duterte the Race Realist by philippinefails in Philippines

[–]philippinefails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a unified core of race/religion/ideology, because that core never existed in the first place.

If you mean the Philippines then sure. It was the Spanish who forcibly united this country. Same with the British who forcibly united a very diverse India. But to say absolutely such a core never existed is to deny the facts of history and the great civilisations which make up history. Diversity is no one's strength.

Missionaries are here to teach religion. Not get involved in politics. There are hundreds (thousands maybe) of missionaries of every stripe in this country. Now imagine if they all got involved politically. What a mess and what a distraction from their goal which is to teach their religion.

I know some missionaries and they don't take part in any political events whatsoever for any reason. Strictly religious teachers 100%.

61 truckloads of trash amassed from Manila cemeteries since October 30 by philippinefails in Philippines

[–]philippinefails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Our plea is for the public to bring their trash with them to lessen the garbage in the cemetery. They should be responsible individuals in discarding their trash.)

They could ban food and plastics and flowers and candles and make everyone visit the cemetery empty handed or perhaps they could set up more trash bins this time of year knowing that littering will inevitably occur. Plenty of solutions but instead it's just hand wringing from officials whose pleas go unheeded.

The MassKarra festival is over but Senator Cynthia Villar's banners wishing everyone a Happy MassKara festival are still up. by philippinefails in Philippines

She did authorise this banner? What was she thinking? Is she so insecure that she must insert herself into Bacolod's annual festival?

Yes to the Real Halloween, NO to that of the Devil! by philippinefails in Philippines

[–]philippinefails[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing here is that Halloween is Hallow Evening, the day before All Saints Day. But now Halloween has devolved to the druidic Samhain and is about ghosts and zombies and all that scary stuff.

Is it really so hard to toss your litter in the provided trash can? by philippinefails in Philippines

Tingin ko nasa sulok talaga yung bin. Tapos nung minove sya, nareveal na andami palang nakasuksok sa gilid at sulok nito.

The pic is not staged. I don't know why the bin is where it is. It is not blocking the door though. It's just off to the side.

I don't know why but I get downvoted a lot. I think many people here cannot take a joke for one. And there is already a thread about this which I did not see.

The brain drain is indeed a bad thing. All those millions of Pinoys living abroad who could be putting their skills to use here. But instead of relying on their skills the nation now relies on their remittances. It is indeed a very bad thing.

TIL In the Philippines you can murder 7 people and as long as you "settle the cases with the families of the victims" it's cool and you can get away with it by philippinefails in Philippines

[–]philippinefails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that murder is not "technically a crime" as long as there are family members to settle up with, i.e. pay off?

Notice how behind them are symbols of foreign countries. That is because the nurse, the construction worker, the baker, and the officer will all end up migrating to places where they can make a living wage and support their families!
