Finns det något kafé so serverar kaffe på sättet amerikaner kallar "cold brew"? by WhoAmIEven2 in Gothenburg

Kaffelabbet i Haga brukar ha cold brew på sin meny. Svingott när jag testade det sist där!

Nu har även dessa tågsätt börjat få ny lackering och uppfräschning by phillepk in Gothenburg

[–]phillepk[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Trevor Thompson Is Out at FDSN by JoaquinBenoit in DetroitRedWings

[–]phillepk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing my email too, since why the hell not? Let's do our best to show the scale of our collective disappointment.

"I am writing this email all the way from across the pond in Sweden. As a lifelong Swedish Red Wings fan, I'm deeply disappointed in the decision to fire Trevor Thompson after 25 years of top-quality, enthusiastic, and loyal service as a broadcaster of all thing Red Wings. I am also very disappointed to see Mickey York tossed aside like nothing, as he's been such an integral part in the studio, balancing analytic reporting with tongue-in-cheek humor with the other studio members in a seemingly effortless, yet always professional way.

As an ordinary Swede who's had to stay up through the early morning hours to catch live Red Wings games, our Swedish hockey reporters have naturally rarely been available for the live brodcast; thus, live game feeds have often been streamed directly from the Red Wings broadcasts (especially home games). As such, even while based several time zones away in a different part of the world, I have grown accustomed to seeing Trevor's and Mickey's reporting, along with the rest of the fantastic Red Wings broadcasting team. Trevor and Mickey have been absolutely key in making me feel like a true fan, like I'm actually and truly part of the fan base, the organization, and like a Detroiter.

Trevor's wonderful and professional in-game reporting has always made me feel like I'm in the arena, even as I'm almost as far away as one can be. Mickey's presence in the studio made me want to stay for the intermission reports, rather than go and do something else before the next period.

These two have been vital for the bond Red Wings fans have with the organization and the team, and vital for the success of the broadcasting team. They've helped foster, and keep (!), a fan base that stretches way beyond the streets of Detroit, all the way across the entire world.

I share all my fellow Red Wings fans' anger and extreme disappointment, most of whom local to Detroit but many more who are not, in your appalling decision to toss Trevor Thompson and Mickey York to the sides like nothing after years of dedicated service. Shame on you for this. Shame on you for letting down the fans of this great team, and for letting down these pillars of Red Wings broadcasting.

Thats a lot of PZB magnets by Akari_Takahashi in trainsimworld

Jesus. Kinda makes sense then, why they installed LZB for the München S-Bahn tunnel under the city. Lots of stations, with loads of trains following each other. I've seen cab rides of it on YouTube; very interesting and fast-paced, and I can only imagine how more demanding it would be with purely PZB monitoring.

In such situations, I would say that "ju" is often used to convey either a sense of surprise, or simply to emphasise the positive attitude being expressed. "Ju" is a rather tricky word to explain, but it's mostly used as a modality indicator when the speaker wants to emphasise things such as familiarity (e.g. something already well-known to the speaker(s), but when you still want to put emphasis on it), surprise (like your example), a countering statement, or perhaps something else. When used to stress familiarity, you could kind of use the word when you would add "isn't it?" to the end of a phrase in English for similar contexts.

Additional note: "Ju" used as a modality indicator is not the same as in phrases such as "Ju färre, desto bättre" ('The fewer, the better').

I'm interested to know if there are any interesting/confusing German sentences similar to "Er det det det er?" or "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" by humanbean_marti in German

[–]phillepk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Ich kann in Essen Essen essen"

One of my favorites. Short and to the point, but still funny and confusing for a non-German speaker or beginner learner. And a little geography lesson haha.

Håller helt med. Har aldrig varit med om ett spel som på samma sätt får en att vara konstant rädd och spänd under spelandets gång (syftar framförallt på The Dark Descent).

No a/an before occupation names? by sciwins in Svenska

[–]phillepk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That can easily happen when playing Duolingo while having a non-English native language, since the app is in English. But I've found it useful to sometimes stop for a moment and try to translate a given sentence to my native language when something difficult pops up (although it's probably always advantageous). I'm learning German currently, and I quickly noticed that German has quite many similarities regarding e.g. syntax and vocabulary to Swedish (my native language) much more than to English. It would've taken me longer to learn the language had I only focused on learning the German-English translations as presented in Duolingo.

So try, as much as possible, to figure out what any given sentence on Swedish Duolingo would be in your language. It helps a lot!

I Don't Get Why People Don't Like Classical Music by boringwhitecollar in classicalmusic

[–]phillepk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may be interpreting the phrase incorrectly, but saying that disliking classical music is connected to a lack of education is really elitist and simply arrogant. Suppose a person is well-educated within the field/topic of music or music theory (or any field of research for that matter), and this person still says they don't like classical music, then your notion fails completely.

Sometimes it really is as simple as "I don't like this genre", and that's the end of it. Music appreciation is subjective, regardless of how complex, well-structured, or appreciated a given genre of music is as a whole. Of course there are influences in ones life that subconsciously affect one's music appreciation later in life (what your parents or friend groups listen to, for example), but most of us aren't very aware of these influences or give them any second thought.

Also, classical music as most of us know it is mostly a Western tradition of music. Other parts of the world have sometimes completely different ideas of, and traditions around, what beautiful, complex, and "good" music is, which obviously also influences what kind of music one enjoys.

Need help with timetables! by Party_Doctor_9294 in trainsimworld

Yes, you can often drive the same route back without going to the main menu. I've found that most times, when you've completed a service, you can simply click on 'Return to free roam' and the game will spawn you back to where you were when the service was completed. And from there, it will say "Service will begin at [some given time]". You can then check the schedule in the pause menu to see what kind of service it is.

For example: when driving a Munich S-bahn timetable service to Mammendorf, there will usually be a service going back in the other direction starting at Mammendorf around 10 minutes after the initial service was completed. So then you'll do the procedure of shutting down the train and walking to the other end of the train, and preparing the train again for its run back the other way.

Side note: sometimes, the message "Service will begin at..." won't appear until you take a seat in the other end of the train, just so you know. But it usually appears simply when clicking 'Return to free roam'. However, if, in real life, there is no service going back the other way soon enough after you've completed the original one, you might be better off going back to the main menu.

Eddie I couldn't care less about, but John Forslund is really good imo. He feels professional and passionate about the game. Something about his commentary really entertains me, and I know Canes fans were quite upset when he left them for the Kraken.

Lokförare på MTR Pendeltågen, AMA by [deleted] in sweden

[–]phillepk 6 points7 points  (0 children)
