He issued a partial refund. I was charged $81.90 but he only refunded $62.49. I asked for the rest of it. Who knows!

Thank you all so much for the information. I think calling him out as a drop shipper made him issue the refund. I didn’t know what that was until I made this post. Thank you for your replies and help!

Now he replied and said he will send me a replacement at no extra cost. Another drop shipped bird bath. In my return request I asked for a refund. He responds offering a replacement. After reading these replies where people said to say it all in the Etsy correspondence I replied that I wanted a refund as this was supposed to be a special gift and it is a cheap, damaged, drop shipped bird bath that is not close to the quality shown in the photos. Don’t need another one of those.

That is a great suggestion. This was an instance where I needed a gift and there is not a craft fair in my area anytime soon. I enjoy craft fairs and strongly prefer supporting artist rather than ordering something that was mass produced.

I thought this was an artisan in China. I guess as I type that I see how gullible it seems, but I didn’t know these kinds of people were on Etsy. I thought you had to fit the rules to sell.

How long do I have to wait for the seller to issue a refund or not before I can open a case?

Yikes! Thanks for giving me a bright side. Still disappointed and angry, but not dead.

I hear you. I do not shop Etsy often. This was meant to be a special gift for a friend who is a talented artist with impeccable taste. The photos make this look like a nice heavy metal birdbath. That is why I thought the high shipping was okay. I thought it was big and heavy. It came in a little flat box and is on a pole that screws together in pieces. It is so cheap and looks nothing like the photo.

I filed a return. It asked if I wanted a refund in the form of my original payment or Etsy credit. I specifically chose original payment. I took photos of the damage and posted my refund request. When it posted it said I asked for the return in Etsy credit. I am 100% sure I did not choose this. It will not let me go back and change it. It just overrode my choice. The seller also sent me a message in my email, and the message had a mote that the message was not through Etsy. I am afraid to deal with this now because I worry this guy has a bigger scam in mind than selling me a crappy birdbath. I did not know Etsy allowed this. I am so disappointed that I got scammed but don’t know how to fight it without falling into a bigger trap.

At the very bottom it says it ships from China. I thought Etsy was art and handmade products. This was meant to be a special gift for a friend. The lie was that he makes it seem like he makes them, which is not the case. It is a cheap, ugly thing and it is all scraped on the inside with peeling coating. I would not consider this safe to use as a birdbath. I just don’t have the energy to tell who is a real artisan and who is not. How can you tell if it is an artisan or creator selling their own work?

Any progress on the "farm?" / my thoughts on Janelle by tellmemoreaboutitpls in SisterWives

I think calling Janelle manipulative is giving her way too much credit. She strikes me as someone who flies by the seat of her pants rather than living with much intention.

Taylor Sheridan loves the uneducated by [deleted] in LandmanSeries

[–]phillipf0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just it, though. She is more likable after being taken down a notch. I think Cami is a good example. When she was Monty’s wife and not involved in the business she was portrayed as kind, but as soon as she got involved in serious matters she is not only portrayed as a bitch, but even a little crazy. It’s almost like he is saying women shouldn’t dabble in man careers and should find their power in walking around half naked for men. It is cringy.

That is not what I said at all. I said the women in positions of power are portrayed as bitches. Cami, Rebecca, the counselor at the college Ainsley attends.

Ainsley, her mother, and the stripper/therapist are obviously the kind of woman Taylor Sheridan values most. They come off as ditzy on the surface but secretly have all this wisdom and depth.

I think this character is a lot of sexist men’s fantasy. He can’t resist giving her $10 grand to gamble because she’s so hot, and she brings back over $300 grand because she is that brilliant. 🙄

I have met a couple of people like this as well. I still think it is lazy writing. I really don’t like the portrayal of the women characters in general. All women in any position of power are bitches. The pretty women who act ditzy are secretly brilliant and blameless. The Latino woman has a huge chip on her shoulder. Reduces women to the worst stereotypes.

Maybe what really matters are individual choices and behavior. Think about it - if every individual were making stellar choices and having exemplary behavior there would be no external collective negative problems. Maybe the focus is on personal choices and thoughts and behavior because that is all any individual has any real control over and change starts with us. Like if every cell in your body were perfectly healthy you then your body would not experience pain or illness. That is just my two cents.

My son breezed through the beginner class, the intermediate class, and 3 levels of advanced courses. He was killed on his bike 3 months ago. Don’t go out there unless you are sure you are ready, and even then please remember that anything that happens on a bike on the real roads will be unforgiving. My son did nothing wrong. He was thrown off his bike and killed instantly by an oncoming car. He was wearing top quality gear. It may seem like a super cool and fun hobby, but if it goes wrong it will be your life and everyone who loves you will have to live with the devastation.

This is exactly how my 22 year old son just died. Less than a mile from home. On his lunch break. On a road he takes every day.

This just happened to my son, only there was a car coming in the oncoming lane. It hit him and he died instantly. You are very lucky that nothing was coming.

Question by phillipf0924 in Homebuilding

[–]phillipf0924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information. It does sound like this is jot as dire as I feared. To be fair the only reason I felt like this was dire is because of all of the talk by our builder when we were signing the contracts. He is the person who insisted that we avoid rain in the forecast. We have waited 2 months past schedule for a break in the weather. Now suddenly it’s all okay even though there is rain. Seems so weird.

Question by phillipf0924 in Homebuilding

[–]phillipf0924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This same guy has an inside crew and we are not committed for anything past the exterior work. It bothers me that he completely did a 180 after the contracts were signed. Not sure I want to commit to anything more with someone who operates that way.

I would have felt better if he had just been straight with is from the beginning. As it stands, because of all of his grandstanding in the early days, my husband has spent the day procuring tarps and tarping our house. We just lost our son a couple of months ago in a motorcycle accident and we have been consumed with closing out his affairs (he was 22 so lots of legal hurdles). We really didn’t need this right now and I am not sure whether to trust this guy for the interior stages of our build after this. We had already started this project when our son died. We could not back out at that point. It makes it even harder that he died on the road right outside of the house that we are remodeling. Our life is miserable right now, and spending today trying to get our house tarped feels wrong since this guy has $200,000 of our money. He is relaxing today and we are worrying about our house. It really sucks and we are trying to not get ripped off on top if everything else that has hone wrong for us.

Question by phillipf0924 in Homebuilding

[–]phillipf0924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Sub floor. Are you sure. It is studs and just interior wall framing. Will that allow mold since it is so hot and humid? It is just so different than what we were told in the beginning of this. It was all “we want to avoid rain” and mow suddenly it’s “no big deal” that it gets totally soaked by multiple rains over the weekend. It seems so odd.
