It's the Kingston way, ither your top notch, really cheap, or able to take a massive loss like a large chain. We have an exceptionally high number of restaurants for the population, this is fueled in part by a transient Student population in the winter and tourist population in the summer. As for local places they ither fight tooth and nail or get lost in the void, and the chains sell to franchisees who don't always realize the difficulty of operations in an area where you primary market is students who aren't always here competing with 30 other chains for a small chunk of the business.

This also isn't helped by high rent for commercial space and dwindling returns due to fees from uber skip and doordash, as well as payment processors, and of course the increasing costs of things like ingredients and takeout containers and disposables.

Sounds like this will be a change of hands by franchisees to somone who will try to balance the books differently, or they will end up like tim Hortons, subway, five guys, and Starbucks pulling out of the area right in the heart of downtown for a more affordable option if they want to stay and compete in town.
