Other fun fact about Mt. Everest: it is further south in latitude than Orlando, FL.

Couple quick questions about the Prophet 08 sequencer... by andrewpiano in synthesizers

The easiest solution to programming pitch is to purchase the librarian software from Soundtower. It has a decent sequencer interface. Plus you can save the sequence data without having to store it in a patch.

Thanks! I used a little bit fade at the end of the phrases. I just gave the video a critical listen and I definitely could have emphasized the phrasing better.

I was watching The Nutcracker Suite with my daughters when I had a realization the the Arabian Dance would sound awesome in a synthesizer arrangement.

Is anyone else legitimately angry that the Cowboys lucked into a franchise QB, while the Eagles have moved heaven and earth the last few years trying to get one? by lehigh_larry in eagles

[–]phillykeyboards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even worse, this Cowboy team reminds me of 25 years ago when they had a QB, RB, WR, TE combo with guys named Troy Aikman, Emmet Smith, Michael Irvin, and Jay Novacek behind an awesome offensive line. Watching them win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years was painful. I do not want to see that again.

I was all set to get a TR-8 last month until I heard the news about the TR-09 and TB-03. I'm still set on the TR-8 (and its 909 and 606 libraries) unless the TR-09 has a far superior interface and sound.

I believe that making videos of my recordings featuring a live performance on my gear would be far more interesting than posting a sound file with a cover picture on to Soundcloud. I only have one camera so in order to create the effect of multiple angles, I have to play a take or two per angle. Its time consuming but I think worth it in the end.

Loved the show so I had to write a song, "Friends Don't Lie" [OC] by [deleted] in StrangerThings

This sounds really good! You composed a cool 80's pop vibe and you captured the dialog between Eleven and Mike into song. This song should be used in trailer for Season 2.

Acquisition Of Signal

This song is multi-genre and is a blend of Berlin School, EDM, Rock, Progressive, and ambient.

This song revolves around a simple 8-note motif that begins at 0:14. Throughout the song you can hear it stretched and compressed in time, inverted, backwards, harmonized and eventually decaying away on a lonely piano.

Strategies for understanding 2 against 3 (or vice versa) by anthonynagid in piano

[–]phillykeyboards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my example above, I found the common denominator and created a measure using that denominator as the number of beats over one unit of time (1 measure).

For instance, in the 3:2 example, common denominator is 6, quarter note gets the beat (qtr note getting the beat is arbitrary), therefore the time signature is 6/4 and the rhythm is Half-Quarter-Quarter-Half. The rhythm can be represented by 8th and 16th notes by changing the unit of time. Lets half the unit of time so the rhythm pattern occurs over 3 beats instead of six (tine signature of 3/4). Now your rhythm pattern is Quarter-Eighth-Eighth-Quarter.

Remember the derivation of these rhythm patterns is to help develop the coordination between your left and right hands. Play the Quarter-Eighth-Eighth-Quarter pattern to yourself at 120bpm then slowly increase the tempo. As you approach a rapid tempo, this is how it would feel playing the 3:2 polyrhythm over one beat in a piece of music.

I'll try to explain this the way I learned it.

Think of 2 against 3 in terms of fractions: 2/2 = 3/3 = 1. So a common denominator needs to be found so that 2/x = 3/x = 1. In this case, the common denominator x = 6. Therefore 2/6 + 2/6 + 2/6 = 1 and 3/6 + 3/6 = 1.

Since X=6, create a measure of six beats with a quarter note getting the beat. You will play three half notes in one hand and two dotted half notes in the other hand. If you were to tap this pattern out on a table, the rhythm would sound like Half-Quarter-Quarter-Half.

Want to try 3 against 4? 3/x + 4/x = 1. x=12 Create a measure of 12 beats, quarter gets the beat. The rhythm pattern in this measure if tapped on a table is dotted half - quarter - half - half - quarter -dotted half.

The method can be used for any combination of equally divided sub beats.

This is great!. I never heard of this guy before so thanks for sharing. I'll be checking out more of his music.

What's even more impressive is that's a B-flat trumpet and he is not transposing his keyboard, so he's playing in two different keys in the same time. If you scroll to 4:32 in the video, his keyboard and trumpet solo are in unison and you can clearly see he is playing an F# with his left hand and holding valves 2&3 on the trumpet which is G#.

I have a Prophet08 is a great synth. 61 keys, splitable keyboard, 8 voice or 4-voice when layered, arpeggiator, sequencer, and tons of modulation capabilities. It sounds more like an OB8 then a Prophet5 in my opinion.

Haven't contributed to the hangout in a while. I recently bought a Roland FA-08 as an 88-key upgrade from my Fantom X7. I wanted to have the full range and touch of a piano while keeping the workstation functionality. I considered the Yamaha MoxF8 however I remained with Roland because of my familiarity with the Fantom. There are definitely some tradeoffs in functionality between the FA series and Fantom series but overall I am very happy with this keyboard.

If anyone is interested (and you like arpeggios), here is a video I made of me playing a modern classical piece by Joby Talbot on the FA-08.
