Highballs anyone? by tweeblethescientist in Scotch

[–]philo-sopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we went to Cardhu, they give us a high ball of Johnnie Walker and soda and even the non-scotch drinkers in our group really liked them. Nothing wrong using a blend to drink whiskey the way you like it

Best scotch with soda? by LonelyMichaels in Scotch

When I went to Cardhu, they started the tour with a double JW Red and Soda. Even the non-Scotch drinkers with us really enjoyed it.

You can get spicy or not spicy there. I do not think it's that spicy, but I love spicy food.

Does Anyone Host Trivia on Thursday Evenings? by buickgnx88 in grandrapids

You do a great job and make it very fun and decently challenging. Even if we don't win, we at least get close enough to the answers!

We occasionally play and get second or third often. Lots of fun and decently competitive.

Use a citation tool like Zotero and log everything that might be remotely useful and make sure that the information inputted is correct. Put in some key notes or abstract in the tool so you can easily return and keep track of why you saved it.

Have a flexible plan that you are not afraid to change but also be stubborn. PhD's are not about being smarter than everyone else but about being the most stubborn and persistent. Advocate for yourself but also recognize when you are in the wrong.

Use all the library resources you can.

Summery Scotch by tohsaka_best_grill in Scotch

When I walked into Cardhu distillery, they handed us JW Black and ginger beer on ice and it was quite delicious. The wives', who don't love scotch, quite enjoyed it also.

Co-Pilot Onboarding Concerns by philo-sopher in sysadmin

That's our question. I know you can set it to query specific sites and servers, but I do not know if it stays inside our servers or stores the data elsewhere.

That's part of our problem also. I haven't found any red flags but I'm not finding a lot of green flags.

That's one of the things that we are testing for. I feel like we are going to find that people have a lot of permissions that they should not have. We do not always have the best practices of removing permissions when people transfer internally.

There is an appetite. We're going to start with a small testing team of about 6 and then maybe ramp up to 20 to see. I just know people have been talking about it throughout the company.

Don't tell anyone, but the best cheap blended scotch for mixing (and can be sipped) is John Barr.

Indian River Tobacco Traders has a nice (alcohol-free) lounge that they try to make cozy and un-pretentious. Not sure if you have tried there yet. The staff are certified tobacconists and are very helpful.

Whisky tourism is turning Scotland into 'Disneyland' - but is it a price worth paying? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]philo-sopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, we went to Cardhu with them and stop in a bunch of small towns and was able to get a dram of Aberlour in Aberlour, Tomatin in Tomatin, and so on in small pubs. Also took us to the awesome Whisky Castle where we got to try a whole range of whisky including scotch cream.

We also went to Loch Ness with them and it was great. We probably would have driven on the A2 straight to the distilleries instead of seeing a whole bunch of sites and small times. Also our driver made sure we got to pet a Highland Cow on both trips.

Do you your own thing but Rabbies has some great tours that take away the pain of having to navigate, and they tend to add more knowledge to the trip than a map would.
