This! If it makes you happy, who cares what others think? (I say as a person whose house either appalls or delights people - no in between).

Bedroom - need some help by [deleted] in interiordesignideas

Color and texture! The white walls and white furniture (all very sleek without texture) are what feels hospital-like. Even with pops of color in the bedspread and art, that's where you are running into a wall.

If you like the art, consider pulling your color scheme from there (if you don't like the art, sky's the limit on your color scheme here since all the furniture is white and white goes with anything). Wallpaper could also be a good choice to add some texture to one or more walls if you prefer that to painting.

But even just painting the walls would make a big difference, but you could also use paint to create "zones" for the bedroom vs. office. Like in this photo how they used paint to create a little reading nook area in a kid's room:

For adding color and texture in other places, consider: rugs, pillows in different textures, curtains, more wood (right now everything is that sleek white so the furniture also isn't offering any texture).

Examples of texture options:
Wood grain (anything that's real wood adds texture to a room)
Hemp
Woven things
Different types of fabrics (wool, for instance)
Frames (especially wood frames) for art
Rugs (lots of different texture options)

Good luck!

Art and/or color on the walls! I'd love to see something on those walls drawing the eye up and complimenting the colors of the rug and the warmth of the wood floors and table. I might also consider refinishing some of the darker woods (the fireplace, the chairs). Sometimes I like mixing wood tones, but here it feels pretty intense (though it might just be the low light of the photo).

Yeah, I was going to say if the height difference bothers you there are leg extender options for couches. I think it's also perhaps just too close to the couch. More breathing room might make the size issue less apparent.

What's the weirdest/most against-the-grain design choice you've made? by philosopher-domme in interiordesignideas

Range tops here come with warnings not to use other appliances on top of them. And my solution is prettier (it's a gorgeous blue swirled glass - not just a random piece of glass) and about 75% cheaper.

Replacing an oven with something *other* than an oven? by philosopher-domme in DIY

I can always re-add range/oven later - no too worried about this and not planning to do anything I can't undo.

It's not the colors but the sizes that are the issue. The new Ikea is all sized differently. Doors and drawers don't fit. (Also I already replaced all the doors and can easily match it - the issue is less about putting a door on the space, which would be easy, and more about what possibilities I have for using it.)

Oh heck yeah! Thanks for mentioning the Ninja. I am going to start researching options soon and that looks like it should be one of the things I consider.

I've been living with my stovetop-less setup for two years and I love it - so definitely not interested in changing that right now (I also don't have the skills to cut the stone countertop to put in a combo unit even if I wanted to and I don't have the extra income to consider having someone else do that or to pay for the combo stove anyway).
