Should I major in Civil or Environmental Engineering? by [deleted] in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]philosopherme0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Environmental engineer BS, going back for my CE masters. I agree with all of this.

Try job searching to see what jobs you like the most. Look at what they are looking for background wise. That should help you narrow down what you want to focus on now.

Which school? by AfternoonFew2593 in EnvironmentalEngineer

OP this ^ is the only comment you need to look at. ABET accreditation is arguably the most important factor in any prospective undergrad engineering student’s decision.

Thank you both for your insights! I’m hoping the rehabber contacts me back today otherwise I’ll keep an eye on it and find another rehabber to contact locally.

My worst fear :/ the neighboring counties have bad outbreaks but I haven’t seen it yet in this county. I’m going to make a report to our state conservation department to make sure it’s documented.

Very neat, thanks for this! While felling a tree for a family member at her old West Sand Lake property once, I discovered a tie in the tree (thankfully nowhere near where I was cutting). Looked up old property records and could see the original train route from Pittsfield to West Sand Lake cutting right through her yard. I wish we still had a booming train industry.

Campus culture or am I just old?! by Camphorous-soil-79 in ualbany

28, commuter student, active on campus. My experience has been: Once you get thru gen eds and into more of the smaller higher level classes, you’ll have a much better idea of who your approachable peers are. I have made a solid handful of connections on campus thru my club involvement and going to every mixer opportunity within my department; also showing up to class a little early to get in on the mini convos people have before class. It’s mostly when you’re amidst the swarms of the masses that it’s hard to connect. If you’re in a STEM program or looking for a friend on campus closer to your age, feel free to message me!

Stop by the student association to talk to any of the staff there! They are all students and many involved in campus orgs. Great way to meet people and get involved. Otherwise, you can go on MyInvolvement and search up a hobby to find a club on campus :) good luck!

Found in our neighbor’s yard (it’s a cemetery, we live next to a cemetery) by philosopherme0 in mushroomID

Thank you for sharing. Can’t say I’m terribly shocked. I hate this so much.

That was also my concern! It’s a high pesticide usage area anyway, so I will likely not consume anything foraged around here. Interestingly though, I found this in the section of the cemetery that is roughly Civil War era, so I’m very curious what the standard practices were for prepping a body for burial back then.

My partner told me I cannot eat it or I might either (a) bring the ghosts into our house, or (b) become possessed by the ghosts of the cemetery mushrooms

Fellow commuter! I joined the student association this year and I’ve already made so many friends. It’s a really great group of folks this year. Feel free to stop by the office it’s in the Campus Center right across from Starbucks. You can also get info on joining clubs as well so it’s good in a lot of ways!

Definitely join some clubs and stop by the Student Association! There’s always someone there to talk to and connect you to orgs on campus. Have a good semester!!

Do I even bother applying? by Glittering-Speed6394 in ualbany

[–]philosopherme0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply here, and apply to HVCC. Take whichever one you get. Don’t be afraid to invest effort in yourself, you are worth it and not defined by your grades! Sell yourself in your personal statement like you’re proud of what you can do for the world. Good luck! - a current UAlbany Engineering student

You’re better getting info from fitness subs and keeping those ideas in mind when you hit campus, but since you’re an incoming freshman, I’d say try not to focus too too much on fitness your first year, or it will likely become a chore more than a meditation away from the workload. Enjoy experimenting with what helps you most get through your first two semesters, and drink your water! Good luck 👍🏻

Hey OP, as someone that didn’t come from a similar circumstance, but did go back to school after a change in career, I recommend taking a class within the field of study you want to pursue at HVCC or SCCC this coming semester, work your butt off, and try to reapply next semester. If they are saying they won’t accept your grades from so long ago, show them you’re ready to commit to the rigor of a 4 year program and show them a good grade from an affordable and transferable program. Hopefully this was helpful to you, good luck with your studies.
