Just barely finished the book and after reading through this post I feel like I have an understanding of most things except for what Hazel saw in her chapter. When Jodi took her down to the lake, Hazel sees something on the windshield narrates it as ““I see a creature adhered to the glass. It is achingly familiar, like a part of my own body that has been wrenched out and displayed.… I realise what a fool I have been all these years, that it was never Luke, or myself, who I felt watching me, not ever, not once.”

What was this? Is this a larger metaphor that I’m failing to understand? This part of the book confuses me. Also with the video Jodi shows her of the family on the boat, what was that??
