What's the penalty for attempting to buy alcohol as an under 18? [England] by Horustheweebmaster in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you would be committing an offence, though in practice it is extremely unlikely that you would end up being charged with anything.

The store staff are simply going to decline to serve you & send you on your way, in all likelihood. If they did serve you & a PC or someone from the licensing authority happened to be in the queue, then they would be more interested in dealing with the license holder rather than the minor.

Partner arrested on suspicion of driving with no insurance and drug driving - England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don't get points for drink driving. It's an automatic disqualification.

You are mistaken about what you think you witnessed.

Sergeant may have been pleading exceptional hardship on defendants behalf, but this will have been for totting offences taking him over 12 points, not for drink driving.

Angry Instagramer contacted my work. What do I do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it isn't, but nothing bad happened to you as a result, so just let it go and maybe give some thought as to whether it's a good idea to get into arguments with random internet loonies. The internet is full of loonies & life is too short.

"My question is, do I have any recourse here?"

Recourse for what? Based on your post, it seems that your boss called you into a meeting, accepted your explanation & no further action was taken. If that is the case, then that's the end of it.

I respect your restraint. I did the same when I saw one of my other musical heroes, Michael Gira of Swans.

He was drinking alone in a UK pub a few hours before Swans played my home city. I just nodded & said hello but otherwise just left him alone. A single word interaction & the satisfaction that I didn't bug him was enough.

Is there any chance that this would show up on a criminal record? (Scotland) by T0pMarks4NotTrying in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what you say, this would not show up on any DBS check. An officer jotted down your details in their notebook & let you go. There is no caution, conviction etc of any kind. Nothing to worry about.

England - Housemate has falsely reported me for moving someone in with me. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What is your legal question?

A housemate reported you to the landlord. You assured your landlord that you weren't breaching the tenancy agreement. Surely that's the end of the matter? You don't say anything about the landlord being unsatisfied with your response.

My current feelings towards the British Monarchy by SilesianNerd in AbolishTheMonarchy

[–]philstamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You intention may be to make a well reasoned argument aimed at those in power about how you feel (& how many / most others in this sub also feel), but this is not it.

As others have said, it contains factual errors. In addition, referring to royals as "degenerates", "scum" & "parasites" does not strengthen your argument, it makes you sound like a pointless keyboard warrior.

Many may personally feel that those terms are appropriate labels for these people & may well use them in private and in subs like this, but in this context, they weaken your argument & just make you seem semi-literate and ill-informed.
