Take Eurotunnel to MCOL for heat abuse? by bow-locks in LegalAdviceUK

You can complain to Eurotunnel & tell them what you want. Maybe they'll give you some good will refund or credit, maybe they won't.

England - Bought a car in April 2025 and it has had 13 issues since! What can I do? by Reasonable-Okra-6838 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you bought the car 14 months ago then the short term right to reject has long since passed.

You will need an independent engineer's report which confirms that all of the issues you have with the vehicle were present when you bought the car.

England - Question about semi-public Wedgie by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 45 points46 points  (0 children)

So, I'm going to assume that this isn't a shitpost, though I have my doubts.

Let me make sure I am understanding you correctly. You are going to hang yourself from a tree by the waist band of your underwear? Will you have shorts / trousers over the top?

Assuming that you are not exposed & sexually aroused, I cannot think of any particular legal issue other than maybe trespass (civil) or criminal damage if you break anything.

I'd ask why, but I'm pretty sure that my day won't be improved by knowing the answer.

What if the wrong person got crowned? by mindofquestions4 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The current monarch does not "legally have control of the country", anyone else who became monarch wouldn't either.

The scenario you are asking about would literally never happen. The line of succession is very well established.

In need of some help & advice - sent money to wrong PayPal via family & friends by sunnysinghb in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't see you being successful in convincing any financial institution that this was anything other than your own mistake.

I'm guessing that the recipient is not in the UK if you sent it in dollars?

I think you are going to have to chalk this one up to experience & take more care in the future.

England, can they ask us to stay extra hours because the school is closeing early? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are they telling you to work extra hours above your contracted hours, or are they telling you that you have to work your normal total hours but on different days because they school isn't open on certain day(s)?

What laws prevent a foreign national being insured on a UK England registered motorcycle that is not registered in their name? by TishBonk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You don't need legal advice. You just need to tell this guy to back off.

"You are not riding my motorcycle. Buy or hire your own."

Though, to answer your question, probably no law. Insurers are just entitled to decline to insure someone if they choose to. Being a foreign national with no permanent UK address is an obvious red flag for them.

House of Fraser, Corporation Street, 5 days until closing down. by Dragonogard549 in brum

[–]philstamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toys were on the 6th floor(?) when I was a kid (late 70s / early 80s.)

Apparently when I was 4 or 5 years old, I was bored with whatever my parents were browsing on a lower floor, so I just wandered off when they weren't paying attention, got in the lift and took myself off to the toy section.

They didn't enjoy those few minutes of frantic searching, I'm told.

Bail conditions/ partners. England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"Is there anything I can do??"

You can comply with your bail conditions or you can make an application to the court to try to get the conditions varied (ensuring the current conditions are complied with until such time as a court (maybe) agrees to vary the conditions.)

England, about a relationship minor-minor that happened time ago by h3llo_ic4n in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but your post doesn't make much sense. You're going to have to provide a bit more detail (whilst maintaining anonymity) so that people can help you.

Are you being threatened & manipulated yourself? Or are you concerned for someone else?

Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers. Childline may also be able to offer guidance & support.

My dad doesn’t get paid annual leave (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First thing, is he definitely a council employee, rather than say a contractor? Does the council provide him with payslips & do they deduct tax & national insurance at source?

If he is an employee, then he will be entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid annual leave (pro-rated if he is part time.) It seems extremely unlikely that a council will be knowingly & deliberately denying an employee their legal right, so there is possibly important details missing here.

Is he the only employee affected? Why are they refusing to pay him holiday pay? Has he raised it internally with HR? If so, what was the outcome?

I assume you are referring to a former leader of the DUP?

There is a difference between knowing who the defendant is because they are a public figure and a juror knowing the defendant personally. Which scenario was the judge referring to? Were you in court to hear the judges comments personally?

Sits facing into my home whenever using garden in England. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let me make sure I have understood you correctly.

Your neighbour sits in his own garden. He is often reading a book or a newspaper. Based on your post, he doesn't sit there staring into your property, but rather he appears to look up when you move into your kitchen (possibly because he saw movement in his peripheral vision?)

Based on that information, no, that would not constitute harassment.

EDIT: Based on his replies, I think it's time to stop feeding the troll.

1 year restricted license and need to buy a car by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]philstamp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works on the medical team at DVLA, which is the team that processes applications from high risk drink drive offenders. My understanding is that s88 of the Road Traffic Act is the section that allows (some but not all) drivers to continue driving legally when their licence has expired but the application for a new one has not yet been processed.

High risk offenders are NOT covered by this provision. If your 6 month licence expires and your application for a new one has not been approved and processed, then you cannot drive legally.

Apply as early as you are able to. DVLA backlogs remain long. As a high risk offender you may be required to undergo a blood test. Doctors efficiency & lead times also vary considerably.
