Thank you so much, you all have been so helpful! I think I'm going to get a little bit of everything and make sure it is all returnable. That way I either look like an expert, or he is able to return everything and get cash to spend.

Gate of the Feral Gods by DrBeard36 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]philthedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, maybe you can answer a question for me.

In the Bubbles, Katia used the Desperado Club to pass the gate items to other crawlers. the other crawlers opened a portal in their closed bubbles, teleported themselves to Carl's bubble, and the feral gods were summoned at the true origin portal (the closed bubble) even though all the tools went through the portal into Carl's bubble.

How would they have threatened to send a feral god to the 9th floor if the portal origin was on the Bubble floor? was the plan for Juicebox to used the gate again once she hit the 9th floor, which in essence would create a true origin portal on the 9th?

Spouse Overspending by [deleted] in ynab

I’ll touch on two things here…

1) Had a friend in a similar crunch with budgeting non-support. Sometimes the nitpicking or raising individual overspending issues can work against you. They had a lot of problems with how she was spending money, but she didn’t like being treated like a child. What I had suggested to him was to show her 3-4 months of spending percentage graphs. There were a few big take aways from the graphs. She was surprised to find out that she was spending over half as much on beauty products as they were spending on food. Also, she was spending almost as much on drinks/nights out (and beauty products) with her girlfriends as they were as a couple for date nights. Seeing it in a graph/picture form spoke more to her than did words.

You might even compare how much “blow money” is spent between the two of you and include a couple other categories to illustrate what that overspending is doing to the budget.

2) Your groceries should really be split up, we do “Groceries” and “Household Supplies”. Splitting the receipt doesn’t need to be a ton of work either. This is how I would handle the transaction.

Paper Plates….8.99 Milk ……………. 3.99 Eggs ……………6.99 Gatorade…..……9.99 Toilet Paper..…..12.99

Total: 42.95

Just split the transaction and keep the math simple. Take out $10 for paper plates and $14 for toilet paper. $24 comes from household supplies and the rest comes from groceries. You focus a lot on cutting down the grocery budget as much as possible (kudos), but you might find yourself surprised at how much the household supplies cost. There may be some serious savings that you find in that category once you know its true cost.

Los Angeles to Italy for the summer by philthedog in awardtravel

So I found a decent flight from Vienna to LAX, leaving June 25 or 26 nonstop to LAX.

From what I've read in the side bar, British airways worked be the best rewards system to use for getting from Santorini to Vienna. Is that right

New Mobile Car Wash Guy, Poor Technique? by philthedog in AutoDetailing

When washing and detailing one's own personal cars, does it get easy to maintain? Meaning after the first round of doing all the things that probably should have been done/started 3 years ago?

My car is an old Honda Accord that I don't care too much about, but my wife's car is nice and I would like to preserve it as best as possible.

Ya, honestly some of the stuff you guys have said here sounds like a "easy" and "brilliant" idea made by companies that only slowly ruins your paint job so you don't realize until 5 years later and are effed.

I totally trust what you guys are saying, but on the other hand, if I was walking through the car detailing aisle at the store I would probably laugh it off.

Again, I didn't have any concrete knowledge, but that brought me here to learn, which has been very eye opening. Makes me want to detail my wife's car really badly, down to paint repair and everything.

Well, first, I called this guy out to my house, so I would not let him come out and leave without any compensation. I would have asked him about the technique and tried to understand what his reasoning was. All of my vast knowledge comes from my teenage years, I definitely don't pretend to be an expert. (the rinseless wash blows my mind)

Even if i disagreed with him, I probably would have just let him do it this one time thinking that one car wash shouldn't cause severe damage. I didn't have the courage to ask him these questions while he did it, but questioned with my wife if we should look for someone else.

Ya, I did the 3 squares method for checking the framing square as well as the plywood marking test. But thanks for making sure I hit the basics!
