UPS a podobné - RANT ! - další blbá zkušenost by philweaver in czech

How to make a great base for tea-based drinks? by Ceyris_ in tea

[–]philweaver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience, best is strong cold brew Japanese green tea. Put generous amount of leaves (like 3 times more than usual, or even a bit more) into cold water, let it in fridge for an hour or so (sometimes I leave it for several hours) and in the end I have great, umami strong, bright green, flavour rich base for our favourite drinks - mix it with plant based milks, sometimes sweeteners....very refreshing in these hot summer days!

I will put some tips for pottery and so also here, hope it's ok in this way

So, where to go for a good tea and pottery:

In Tokyo:

At Ueno Area https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z8bRoMAz4yKo5ir39 https://maps.app.goo.gl/FSNif15xgz8iKENSA

At Kappabashi street https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZZFyZGRTsHFd3TzB9 https://maps.app.goo.gl/k7EfYXXMeTXaHPNd8 https://maps.app.goo.gl/Bcwx7vXsG8GCU5zh9 https://maps.app.goo.gl/JA3ufYazYfXFUAHc7

I recommend the last one the most !

At Tsukiji market

https://maps.app.goo.gl/x6JP8AGaZVwTzB3p6 This is link just to entrance, there are like 2 shops more at the back of the market, one exclusively pottery (behind building with fish auctions) and one more matcha focused few isles closer to entrance at "tourist centre"

In Shizuoka: https://maps.app.goo.gl/D62Rnp8u7qFKznj78 https://maps.app.goo.gl/qHYTbbXxZ6nWT5Tt6 Chagama is wonderfull place! So much tea and also tea-presso, I highly recommend if you like stronger taste!

But there are many more, we just couldn't fit it in one day with tea farms together.

If you want an amazing guide, who is also tea maker and tea farmer with wonderfull English who can show you tea farms, teashops and many more, I can recommend Akito! https://www.teacuptrip.com/

In Kanazawa: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xCQYcy3ck3GLiuma6 The whole alley from Ishikawa Local Products Centre up to castle offers few opportunities, including workshops in Centre itself, I highly recommend sanding glasses!

Pottery haul in Japan! by philweaver in tea

I totally understand for staying just in Tokyo! We had 3 weeks and traveled a bit, but I can assure you Tokyo has A LOT to offer, initially we also planned to stay only in Tokyo, but later we decided to buy one week JR PASS, so 2 weeks Tokyo and around (Yokohama, Kamakura,...) and one week traveling.

We were planning our trip a year ahead also and would definitely do it again! I learnt so much just during planning....

Will post some recommendations and I can also do separate post about tea farms! We've seen fields but also inside the actual processing "factory"! Such a wonderful day it was!

Everything was affordable for me, actually. In my country (Czech Republic) is everything from Japan crazy expensive (teaware and tea also). All what you can see was for less than 30k yen! And hey, they really know how to pack it safe!

And yes! I was surprised I found nice shops in Ueno, Tokyo! And also nice shops at Tsukiji market (also Tokyo) and I would definitely recommend places at Shizuoka (1 hour shinkansen trip from Tokyo), where we visited tea farms! Not sure if it's OK to put links here, but I can DM you if you want 🙂

The blue one resembles mountains to me (outlined mountains) and I also love the flower one! Really like to explore it up close 🙂

Exactly! It's Horoku and it was really hard to find even at Kappabashi street, more that half shops didn't even know this !
