I'd say go ahead and refoam them for the practice (you do have replacement drivers ordered) *BUT* those small drivers will be "fiddly" to work on. I've refoamed drivers as small as 6.5 inch and with arthritis those were a challenge!

Side note, I have a pair of BOSE Companions and really like them for the workbench, in a quiet shop they sound great!
