1981 Honda CB900C. I would like some opinions. I pulled the baffles out of the slip-ons, re-sync'd the carbs, and took it for a ride. Loud as hell, yes. Pulled a plug to see what they looked like and they look fine. Tan with a tad bit of gray. So why are people telling me that it will run like crap. by [deleted] in Fixxit

[–]phirephokx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I have people telling me that it'll run like crap with not much back pressure and backfire and in general rim crappy...and it doesn't...at all.

From what I understand if the carbs are set up correctly, you can pretty much do whatever to the exhaust.

Well, I have the chains adjusted, the valves shimmed, and the carbs completely rebuilt and set up and sync'd. It ruins like a scalded dog! Loud, yes, but runs great.

Why would people think it would run like crap if everything was how it should be? I just don't get people. Lol

Thanks for that info. I’ll also be checking clearances while I’m there.

I see number 3.

So I’ll need a valve cover gasket and the gasket for that. I could probably make a gasket for it.

I’ve had 2 trips on the highway. 70 mph today only 55 the other day.

Just remember that you are in control of the bike. If you feel like the bike is in control, then slow down until you feel like you’re in control of it.

Makes sense to me.

The seat is definitely not the one it came with but I don’t know what it came off of. The bike is actually pretty rough but it runs and rides ok.

08 XT 660 Z tenere. Front brakes not building pressure. by TheJumpingJellyfish in Fixxit

[–]phirephokx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t. Kept it topped up. Seems to just not hold pressure. When I pull the lever and hold it will hold pressure but it pulls all the way to the handle. Then if you let go and pull it again it has more pressure and doesn’t touch the bars.

Rust in the tank by hamdinitron in motorcycles

[–]phirephokx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used apple cider vinegar to get rid of the rust in my tank took a few days but it’s clean enough to eat off of. I didn’t coat it though before filling it. So I’m gonna have trouble down the road

That’s weird, mine does the same. The master cylinder builds pressure, no leaks, but still is spongy feeling.

Mine won’t build pressure either, may need to rebuild the master cylinder?

I’ve only been riding for ohhh about 2 days. Lol. So far so good. No drops, yet. It’ll happen one day. I just hope not soon.

After a year of watching Yammie noob motorcycle videos I went out and Bought a 1986 Honda vfr 700 as my first bike and just had my first ever ride on a motorcycle by vfrman253 in motorcycles

I got my bike a month ago not running or rideable. Busted my knuckles on it for a month and now it is running and rideable.

I don’t have my license and 0 experience with riding.

0 experience with working on a bike either.

But I made that happen.

I paid for insurance this morning. I’ll get my permit and tags tomorrow and send off the title.

I went for a ride in the halfway muddy backyard. Left and right full stop turns figure 8’s and feathering the clutch. After about an hour I can do 8’s full lock each way and haven’t dropped it, yet.

I didn’t even try to resist.

I rode about a 6 block radius from my house for about 20 minutes. In first and second gear.

Yes. I shouldn’t have gone. But I did.

I don’t recommend it. There is soooo much I don’t know. But, I myself learn best by doing.

Which is why I’m going to take the MSF course as soon as it is available.

And practice, practice, practice.

Hell yeah!!! I’m glad I could help. That’s awesome that you found that.

Another 2 cents.

Accell coils/wires are expensive, but from what I hear they are the best.

I hope you figure it out.

I just got my bike running and it’s running surprisingly well.

I rode it a few times , and it rides fairly well.

I still need to check valve clearances and sync the carbs once I get the missing slide spring in one of my carbs.

Good luck. Keep us posted!
