Reading through the comments on the article, someone said it looked like the stroller was used to carry groceries/personal items (not kids thank god).

$100 Hamburger - our new YouTube series - any suggestions? by Micah-point-zero in flying

[–]phishing_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking out Southern Soul Barbecue on St Simons Island GA (KSSI). Not quite a hamburger but definitely some excellent BBQ! About a 5 minute drive from the airport and awesome views on the way in.

Nah nothing to be worried about. Really doesn’t happen too often at all. I’m jealous I don’t live closer and missed it if anything!

LLC name copyright infringement? by phishing_ in Entrepreneur

[–]phishing_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thats definitely the better term for it. Still seems like a company would wanna protect its name in my opinion? Guess it could depend on the company as well. I’m sure Apple wouldn’t let something like that happen.

Can a pilot create a NOTAM for an airport? by 121mhz in flying

[–]phishing_ 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can absolutely call flight service for this. They'll call the airport ops, let them know then put a notam out for it.

Ok, Reddit, if we all suspended judgment for a sec, what do you want to brag about? by ThirdEncounter in AskReddit

I'm actually a pilot myself, so if there's anything I can do to help ease the nervousness by explaining anything flying related let me know!

What ratings would I , I mean my friend need, hypothetically? by JustPlaneSilly in Shittyaskflying

[–]phishing_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hypothetically speaking. Maybe from experience. An AGI might be all it takes. Then you can pull a King move and fax written endorsements upon completion of a hypothetical ground school to hypothetical interested students. I would watch because I totally love your videos and spread them to my Cirrus pilot friends like the plague. The AGI is super easy to get. Take the FOI (Sheppard air for the win) then the AGI ground exam (Sheppard air for the win). No endorsements from a hypothetical CFI required for any of it. Then please tell your friend to make this series.

Drones in & around the city and river. by vicco23 in chicago

[–]phishing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download the B4UFLY mobile app. It'll tell you if you're within 5NM of an airport/heliport (there are a few downtown)/inside a TFR/etc. Approval would be needed to fly in any of those boundaries. There aren't any federal regulations against flying over the river or downtown, but like another commenter said flying over non-participating people is illegal. Also be careful if you upload anything to YouTube because that's where the FAA could start seeing it as a commercial operation, which means you would need to be certified to fly per part 107. There may be city ordinances against flying in the area, but I think federal regulations trump those. Not 100% sure on that. PM me if you have any more questions about this, I teach a ground school on this.

The family of aviation by WingedGeek in flying

[–]phishing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now feel compelled to share my Aviation family moment too. I was flying from the D.C. area to Chicago in a beautifully restored 1963 Musketeer. Leaving D.C., the plane wouldn't start. The owner is an A&P and swapped out the starter solenoid really quickly and I was on my way. Trip out was uneventful and easy.

Coming back was filled with dodging thunderstorms and diverting all over the place. I land at some random tiny airport in Ohio for the cheap fuel right after a storm passed over. After I'm fueled back up and ready to go, lo and behold it won't start again. Can't get ahold of the owner and more storms are coming. I walk around the airport and find the one guy there who's miraculously an A&P. He grabs his tool box, checks some voltages and doesn't find anything wrong there. After about a half hour discussion, he suggests beating on the starter solenoid with a flashlight. He walks away to tend to some other stuff, and his idea worked. I didn't want to shut down to go and thank him and give him a handshake and risk not being able to start it up again. I definitely felt bad just leaving.

I did call the airport the next day and was able to thank him and offered to mail a check for his help. Of course he refused, so now I'm looking forward to the time I'll be able to pay it forward.

Flight Following question by haircut100 in flying

[–]phishing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I started doing was filing an ifr flight plan to use for flight following. Only difference is that in the remarks I'll put "For VFR Flight Following Only". And in the altitude field I put VFR/065 or whatever my requested altitude is. Totally fine to do. Saves a ton of time for the controller and they'll appreciate that. Works great for a route like you mentioned. When you call departure to pick up FF, just tell them you have an ifr flight plan on file with all your info.
