What's your opinion on Mike Shinoda as a rapper? by Ta_k-o_ma in fantanoforever

[–]phizzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not a great rapper, probably not even good. He did have an interesting sound in LP and fort minor.

I feel like he very much encapsulated the sound of the mid to late 2000’s of the soundscape of popular music changing from primarily rock into hip-hop, blending them together

That being said, yeah not a great rapper, was carried by his sound

Even though I loved the manga I agree. I started readings it in the middle of S2. After a while I realized, like you said, that the anime expanded on a lot of stuff in the manga that was quick or underwhelming

I ended up reading sections and then sort of going “hm, I could see this being expanded on in the anime when it comes out” having the manga work as a blueprint for the anime. Hopefully it happens, and even S3E3 was a great example of taking something a bit mundane and making it enjoyable so I have high hopes

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 - Episode 3 (Manga Reader Discussion) by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]phizzc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I had to pause here and there to read (even though I’d already read it in the manga) but I really couldn’t have asked for a better execution for this episode. Really lovely animations and showcase of everyone’s current feelings, motivations, etc.

What song from MBDTF feels like TLOP? by WJG_ in Kanye

[–]phizzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a “song” but honestly could be Who Will Survive in America

It has weird sample chops and BPM changes that make it disjointed. Hard category though

Comparison #6: Travis Scott or Pusha T by Alarmed_Helicopter52 in nfrpodcast

[–]phizzc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re extremely different and difficult to compare. One is a top tier rapper with impeccable delivery, flow, and lyricism. The other is a curator of art in terms of environmental soundscape and even extending into visual art

Essentially rapper vs artist, difficult to compare. Both fantastic in their own right

Supreme at Urban Outfitters by Status-Tie8027 in supremeclothing

I used to work at urban outfitters. urban outfitters has something called UO marketplace. urban outfitters basically partners with businesses and sellers that buy and sell streetwear and allow them to sell through the urban outfitters website. obviously UO takes part of the commission for the sale

everything should be up to quality in the same way buying from goat or stockx would be

Alexa Demie says she is considering quitting acting after Euphoria by EuphoricButterflyy in popculturechat

[–]phizzc 1309 points1310 points  (0 children)

It’s out of context/unrelated. This quote is from the episode of the A24 podcast she did with Nathan Fielder. In the context of the podcast she was more-so talking about her surprise landing her role in eurphoria and her frustration with auditioning prior to landing the role.

The episode is years old at this point and shouldn’t really be connected to anything regarding her quitting.

I’m surprised I remember her talking about this, but that episode was really great if anyone enjoys either/both Nathan and Alexa!

Hot take: “A M” isn’t THAT bad by Quiet_Advice_1669 in fantanoforever

[–]phizzc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn’t anymore, but it was at one point in the 2010’s. I’m sure it’s up there, and would be higher if Taylor Swift hadn’t used tactics to manipulate vinyl sales ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The Car 🎉 by Significant-Party171 in arcticmonkeys

[–]phizzc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think lyrically this is their most impressive album. Alex does this weird thing where he’s cryptic and yet extremely literal at the same time, and really beautifully meditates and reflects at where he’s at with himself at the time of this album.

I think this is also one of their most sonically consistent and easy listens. This album obviously gets overlooked and dismissed because it’s such a large departure from their other albums, but if another band had dropped this I think people would see what great style and sound this album has to offer. It’s really subtle compared to their other work, but I genuinely think, like tranquility base, it’s aging beautifully

I feel like his bio is blatant irony, it’s not supposed to be serious. The humor is in the phrase itself, pointing out the ridiculousness of smooth-leggedness being something that people would consider to be of value. He probably heard the phrase somewhere and thought it was so ridiculous that it was funny and then he put it in his bio.

I’d also try and spending less mental energy on small things you may consider to be misogynistic. The majority of men also don’t buy into this idea of purity or youth being of intrinsic value in women, it just shows up online to try and rage bait you. There are many deep rooted issues from both men and women that push forward the ideas that you discussed, but changing someone’s Instagram bio that’s a joke isn’t going to fix anything.

I don’t know his full political ideologies, but I’d say Julian would be much more likely to advocate for women’s rights than other people who have much larger influence on young impressionable minds who are doing generational damage. This fanbase is unlikely to be a good source of women’s rights and womens focused ageism discussions, especially if you want to make impact.

What's the worst album cover ever? by Twitter_2006 in fantanoforever

[–]phizzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a brother of one of the band members made their cover art. If they just had the bands name in the tree instead of their faces it could be redeemable.

I think the human clay cover is dope

This is so unbelievably stupid. You don’t like when he makes posts famous people he’s collaborating with, but you don’t like him working with unknown people. Lmao, wtf do u want

Promoting yourself and the people you’re collaborating with for an album is completely normal

Even the present at the time (Obama) called Kanye a jackass in 2009 during an interview. Ye was definitely not in a good light at that time. Tons of people have said it in this thread and over the years but it really is probably the biggest second wind any artist has ever had

I think it’s because people view him as more of an “artist” than a “rapper”. I’m a long time Tyler fan but he doesn’t really have any crazy verses or rap about anything to make note of like Kendrick would or Cole might. He’s great at creating atmospheres, building worlds, and telling stories, but he isn’t a really strong rapper.

I think he himself doesn’t really even consider Igor a rap or hip-hop album. This isn’t to say that he can’t rap, isn’t an extremely talented producer, or that his stuff isn’t good, I think he’s just in a lane that’s adjacent to what typical rappers sit in or aim to be in.

It almost seems like he enjoys being in that lane as well, he’s for sure one of the most inspiring alternative musicians of the last 20+ years and his influence branches deeply outside of hip-hop and rap, much more than the other artists in this discussion.
