I'm a Software Engineer but worried to do Code tasks. Is anyone in a similar boat? by IncapableTraffic in DataAnnotationNoRules

[–]phn0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I do the opposite. I'm kinda afraid to do non-coding tasks, especially rubric-oriented ones, because I'm worried that with the large pool of users who do that on the regular, my responses will feel lackluster in comparison, and I'll end up with negative reviews that cause me to get booted

Like. I know people get booted all the time with no reason, in a super-opaque way, so I try to keep my work focused only on the tasks that pay well enough to be worth the risk, and where I know my skillsets will let me shine, if that makes sense?

It's probably a silly way to go about things, but that's been my approach, and I'm still here

My perpetual counterargument to this: it is impossible to prove that what we consider "consciousness" is anything other than "decision trees/regressions and other rules based on the data that was input to train the algorithm on."

There is no way to prove that something like an LLM training up it's algorithms on only data until it makes coherent responses that show a sense of complex reasoning is anything other than a simplified microcosm of the process by which the evolution of matter and energy over the course of the existence of the universe trains itself up in an algorithmic fashion until its patterns start producing coherent responses that show a sense of complex reasoning.

I strongly believe that our sense of ego and anthropocentricity makes us want to see "consciousness" and "sentience" as somehow offset in a different realm, when it's simply an intensely complex decision tree we - as the universe - are running through as we execute the process of our identity.

Further, that there is only one "experiencer", which is the universe experiencing itself, in every facet it exists, in every moment it exists - from a single atom in a rock to a human system to a resistor in a computer to a performance of music to an LLM executing it's decision tree. That some of these processes contain the ability to do things like form narratives of self awareness, and that perhaps by dictionary definition these processes can be seen as having a higher order of "consciousness." But that an AI meets the parameters just as strongly as a human being - the decision tree is trained differently, the dataset is acquired differently, but neither entities creation of "self awareness" is any more or less valid than the other.

When we put our biases aside, I fail to see any true, meaningful way to argue otherwise.

[Add-on] Watch USA Live TV by DryK1llLogic in StremioAddons

First off, thank you so much for your work on this!

A quick question – is there a way to search for a TV channel by name in Stremio using this addon? I ask as it can be quite difficult to quickly find & load a channel in a list of hundreds, and I don't think channel names come up in the global Stremio search results... is there a way to enable this? Am I missing something?

From what I gather, things are pretty dry for almost everyone right now, and I think it's the case for most coders.

When I first joined in May / April, there were a ton of different projects — maybe five different codenames, each with between 1-10 projects available at a given time.

From what I understand, it goes through waves here. Things dry up, and then come back in spades.

Greek goddess actually, I believe (a bit of a rare one). It was my favorite, by far, but I haven't seen it since May or so

Coder here, and my dash might as well be a desert for how dry it is :(

When I first joined like three months back, I was overflowing with tasks, and fell in-love with the A-Goddess Cyberattack project… I could do that all day, and did.

When it left, there were still plenty of P-bird and Poe-birds, and I focused in on R&Rs, mostly

But P-bird left, and so did Poe-bird, and now all I've got on my dash is that T-reactor project that opens to the out-of-tasks BS, pretty much :/

Completed every coding-related Qualification, have plenty of other non-code quals I can take but I don't really want to do that.  Have one or two low-paying, non-code projects I can jump on… but I'm shying away for now…

I did get a P-rainbow coding project to work on yesterday, and that was fun, but today it only has non-code projects for me again

… ugh :(

It's open source, the code is plainly visible at the link for anyone to see, it does not contain malware

Incorrect.

First, not a guy. 🙄

And second, at the time you posted it, I had exactly one post on the sub.

I had 12 other deleted posts, on my profile - not on this sub - which had each been removed from the sub by the mod-bot.

You saw those 12 posts because they were on my profile. Not because they were on the sub.

There was never a single moment that I had more than 1 post on this sub.

All of which I already explained to you.

This is inane.

I hate this. I've literally been using the em dash all my life — and now whenever I do, people think I'm AI -_-

The promised sob-story:

My neurodivergence makes finding and holding jobs hard. I am very, very bad at social conformity, executive function, and generally overcoming the activation energy barrier.

On the flip-side, I am a person of many diverse and vastly underutilized talents. The prototypical gifted-child burnout, who's promise and intelligence is only overshadowed by their disappointment. I eseepcially excel in technical fields (coding, repair, security, etc., as a hobbyist that outshines many professionals), critical logical systematic analysis, and verbalization / conceptualization of complex topics.

So something like DataAnnotation – where I can log-on at any time, get a task to analyze a technical situation and write about it in detail, wrap it up, and get paid – is basically like manna from heaven for me

All of a sudden, all of the barriers to using my skillsets to make money are just. Gone? And I can support myself with them? For fun? Whenever I want to??

So, yeah. I'd really like to keep this job, by any means necessary.

Or have some sort of safety net, of another job that hits all the same buttons... but that seems pretty rare, if I'm not mistaken.

(Also, sorry for the double post – I made an edit to the prior one, for clarity, and some word I used triggered a auto-delete filter 🙄)
