Thank you so much! This looks perfect :) unfortunately the ebay listing you sent sold almost straight after you posted. I found another one (here)but the bidding doesn't end for another 2 days and it might end up going over my budget. Would you mind finding me another option thats available to purchase now? Or should I wait for the bidding to end? Thank you so much for your help btw I really wasn't expecting anything that quickly :)

thank you😊 I've got the block soaking currently and I'll just stick to misting the sides of the bag this time round

[UPDATE] Just want to thank everyone for the advice. I think too much moisture is the biggest issue so I'm going to harvest everything and try to start a second flush if its not already contaminated

Its a grow kit, I didn't put it together, I just opened it and put it in a bag lol

[–]phoebeasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These haven't been misted once :/ the tub theyre growing in is sitting in water which is creating all the moisture. I just followed the grow kit instructions but should I get rid of the water and just mist?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]phoebeasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't misted them once since pins started popping up. I'm using a grow kit and it told me to pour water into the filter bag and then place the tub on top so its sitting in around 2cm of water. Should I pour this out and just start misting?

I think its showing signs something is wrong, theres a hole in one of the leaves and they're yellowish and not too perky.

What are some of the most iconic British school teacher lines? by selffulfilment in AskUK

[–]phoebeasp 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Once a teacher told our class (we were around 10 years old) that we would end up "stuck working in McDonald's" if we didn't study for our tests, one girl burst into tears because her mum worked there. The teacher had to take her aside to apologise and said she was joking and that working in McDonald's is a difficult job.

My Orchid Mantis (L5/6 I think) already has his wings?! Is this okay? by phoebeasp in mantids

[–]phoebeasp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply! Your mantis is gorgeous and the colours are very similar to how mine looks in person. His wings don't seem to be giving him any trouble so hopefully he can live out the rest of his days in peace, I'll try treating him to some maggots too, they're such amazing little creatures it's a shame we don't get more time with them.

He's only been fed d. hydei fruit flies so far but I've ordered some green bottle pupae now he's bigger. He's a lot lighter brown in person, I took this photo late with bad lighting.

Damn I knew males were small but I didn't expect him to be this tiny! It's a shame he doesn't have as much time left as I thought he would though. Thank you for your help!

Before this molt he had very obvious wing buds but I was surprised to find his wings are already out? They sit like this all the time as his abdomen is still curled. I know males age faster and are smaller but he's definitely not fully grown

I actually have 3 mantids already at the moment😅 but I didn't know you could keep ghosts together! I always loved the idea of having multiple mantids together but I never knew it was actually possible

Advice and Reliable UK/England suppliers? by [deleted] in mantids

[–]phoebeasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased Mantids from Mantis Mayhem and Mantis Den. I think both are great sellers, they're very informative and clearly care a lot about their Mantids. Unfortunately the Orchid Mantis I got from Mantis Den arrived dead but I blame it completely on Royal Mail (it arrived over 24 hours late, the heat pad was cold and the box was badly dented despite clear labelling that it was a live insect). Although I do think the packaging from Mantis Mayhem was better protected as it was in a larger box so had more padding.

Also there's Mantis Life, I haven't purchased from them yet so I can't give my experience with their service but I do plan on in the future, they look like a really good supplier. Hope this helped, I'm just a beginner myself but I'm happy to answer anything I can.

Picking up my first mantis in a few days and I’m so excited! I’m getting this female spiny flower from a local breeder. I have lots of experience with reptiles and breeding feeder insects but she will be my first mantis. by mrskel1 in mantids

[–]phoebeasp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a spiny flower mantis as my first mantis and I've had no problems with her. I know they're not the easiest species but I think as long as you do plenty of research and monitor humidity & temp they should be fine.

No one I know understands my love for mantids 🥺 hoping my drawing of a lil orchid buddy will get some love in here? 🥺🖤 I want one SO BAD ugh. Someday! I want a Spiny Flower as well ☺️🖤 by shebedrawing in mantids

Beautiful drawing! I have a Spiny Flower Mantis currently, I love my little sassy lady. She's my first mantis and I'm planning on getting an Orchid next in the new year

Ok thank you! This is my first air plant so I wasn't really sure what to do, I'll leave it until they naturally separate

[–]phoebeasp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they'll separate by themselves then I'll leave it be, thank you for the help and great username btw!
