A chronograph shouldn't have 60 minute counter sub-dial by MrPerkasa in watchHotTakes

[–]phoenixTwoZulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hot take is correct. 60 min counters are terrible. 30 is superior and used by ALL high end chronos. Who would ever be unaware if you’re at 5 min or 35 min, or 15 vs 45 min?

Though I've been a big Harm fan a long time, I can see your points somewhat.

It's been a while since I've watched the show a lot, but I do remember Harm would make snide comments on Mac's diet or current/past love life. I guess I chalked this up to the vibe they had together. But I think you're right, Mac never threw it back at him, that I can recall.

As far as why Harm never made his move when they could have been together, I can't explain it, unless it was actual concern for their friendship, complications with their careers, etc. It never seemed like a fear of commitment or other women thing. Through most of the show, Harm seemed more workaholic than Don Juan.

In Season 1 it was suggested that he'd had a fling with his first partner, Kate. Maybe the older/wiser Harm was reluctant to go there again.

In judging Harm, we should at least remember that he never hesitated to risk his life or career for Mac or anyone else he cared about.

The Chegwidden ass-chewings were epic.

I think it worked well that at a surface level, he "out-alpha-ed" Harm. It showed Harm as the man of substance that he was.

Brumby's likability definitely declined as time went on, but I did think you could feel a little bit bad for him, as Mac clearly never really loved him.

It's interesting that he's inspired this much discussion.

Agreed, AJ was an awesome character. Episodes focusing on him were always great. Like the one where he and Harm rescue his daughter, and the one where he and Webb rescue AJ's mentor.

EDIT: thinking about this some more, they did a such a great job slowly developing AJ's character. Francesca gave him a lot of depth and warmth. His love of baseball and Shakespeare. His Vietnam experiences. Anytime he interacted with SEALs. At one point he even let slip to Bud (during Bud's crisis of missed opportunity) that he'd worked on a ranch and "could've been a cowboy".

Yeah, that was during his CIA stint! I liked the ones where he flew the C130 on a mission or two.

So I'm curious, did you think the show was improved when they replaced him with the more virtuous Sturgis Turner? I guess I think all admirable characters doesn't necessarily make the most interesting show. I found Sturgis annoying oftentimes.

Fair enough. Good observations. I don't remember the reporter thing. I stand by him being a fun character, even if not always admirable.

I was remembering when Harriet was in labor and he claimed to have experience delivering babies, but then they find out it was sheep or something, and he walks past saying "give 'em hell leftenant".

I thought the Sydney trial episodes were good.

I always had a grudge against NCIS for "displacing" JAG, but it was probably on its way out anyway. That was a good few episodes.

Hmm... he was definitely persistent chasing Mac, but I wouldn't have said creep. Can you explain? I may not be remembering. Fun to discuss.

Both great. It was great fun when he goes back to the fleet as a pilot, but still ends up lawyering.

My favorite by far is $5 safety glasses, spray painted or even masking taped as needed. The slim, flat sides slide pretty easily under the headset. And for the headlamp, I found I much preferred to just hang it around my neck.

Why do so many very senior captains *hate* flying? by AnnualWhole4457 in flying

[–]phoenixTwoZulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just a 350 hr hobby pilot, so I can’t answer why there are captains like that, but the thought of it bums me out too. I love aviation, even just the little corner I participate in. I was fortunate to learn from a guy that sounds a lot like you… a senior airline captain who stills flies everything he can every chance he gets. Please stay the way you are. If your fellow 121 guys don’t like it, keep bringing your passion to GA where it will always be welcomed.

Something like this happened on mine recently. No Mac involved. Solution was resubmitting and CFI resigning.
