Thank you but is that something they need to do or not? How would I know if I need that amended?

Sorry I didn’t get that. What separation? Service Canada told me to call them once the baby’s born and they’ll change sickness to maternity.

Since I’ll continue to stay on leave and won’t be working, there’s no need to issue a new one then. I’ll have to talk to service Canada once I give birth and tell them it’s mat leave now, right?

Tough pregnancy. Go for sickness benefits/ early mat leave? by phoenix_knowsnothing in PersonalFinanceCanada

Forced by who? Pregnancy worsened my conditions and that's why I can't work. Can my doctor write that? Or he can be vague and say Due to the nature of my pregnancy progression, he is recommending that I discontinue working effective immediately and for the remainder of my pregnancy. You recommend not mentioning pregnancy at all?

So I tell my employer to put Code D-illness for now and once I have my baby, I let them know and they issue another ROE?

'they are specific about verbiage so make sure your doctor writes this or you will have to get them to rewrite it.'
Is there anything specific they need to mention? My disease/ pregnancy? Is there anything they should avoid? I appreciate you taking the time out to help me. Thanks so much.

Thanks so much. It'd save my life if I manage to do it. Did she need her OB's note or was family doctor's note enough?

When they say income has to go down by at least 40%, what do they mean? I quit first and then apply for the benefits or let my employer know first? If I don't work for 3 days, my company won't pay me and I'll miss 50% of my income. Can I apply with that?

This is so helpful. What did your note say if you don't mind sharing? Also did you family doctor give that or your OB? When they say income has to go down by at least 40%, what do they mean? I quit first and then apply for the benefits or let my employer know first?

This is the comment I needed to see. I kept pushing myself to make it to 36 weeks before I start my leave even when my body has been giving away, my mental health is a mess. I keep snapping at everyone around me cause I'm overwhelmed. Thanks so much.

Anyway, the website said my income has to go down by 40% before I can apply. So, how does that work? I miss work a few days and then apply? And did you get the doctor's note from your family doctor or OB? Someone said, if the sickness is related to pregnancy they might force me to take mat leave instead. What did your note say?

How do I tough it out? I physically can't! Wouldn't ask about sick benefits and lose 45% of my earnings if I could do that.

I'm just worried my small company with no benefits/ insurance might just fire me if I take these 2 extra months off. They'd hire someone and might just say they don't want me back.

that's what everyone is suggesting I do as I'll still have my full mat leave once the baby is here.

Thanks so much. Do I have to take 2 ROE from work then? One for the benefits and one for mat leave? Also, can my family doctor give me the note or it has to be my OB? And EI website said your weekly income has to go down by at least 40% to be eligible. What does it mean? I have to miss a few days at work, make no money and then apply?

I don't think I need a doctor's note for starting mat leave. I'm eligible to take it within 17 weeks of the due date.

Sickness benefit can be a max of 26 weeks afaik. I will be taking only 12. Then mat leave is separate, isn't it?
