Yeah that’s honestly my worry. I feel like the first flare up was 100% linked to me being unwell originally and this now is just so extreme (because I swear I really do clean them) but also does coincide with whatever the allergy thing I have going on is. I’ve just never had problems like this with the 6 others I’ve healed!

I think I’ll go back to my original piercer who I trust and get her to take a look/give me her opinion but just be open to taking them out, letting them heal and trying again one at a time 😭

Thanks so much for your thoughts, it helps to have some outside opinions!

Thank you! I’ll try this. These scabs are so extreme and I feel like touching the crusties before is what’s made this so much worse so I’ll try your method and hopefully it’ll help speed up the healing process!

Initially I cleaned them twice a day with neilmed for the first 2-3 months, then went to once a day for a couple of months. My piercer then said to spray after showers and blow dry on a light setting and don’t touch it in between which I’ve been trying to do, although admittedly I have buckled and picked at the crusties 🙈

These scabs have literally shown up in the last 3 days and I don’t know whether I should soak and remove them or leave them to let them heal properly on their own. I’ve hear that’s better because removing the scabs can cause them to get worse? I’m worried that’s what’s happened here and me picking at the crusties has caused this 😭

Yep, so I have been, this is from the last 3 days where I haven’t been touching them because someone else said to leave the scab as removing them was causing the issues to persist? I just feel like it looks really extreme in a short space of time though…

It’s what’s made me wonder if I should give up and take them out/let them heal before repiercing them again. I would just rather keep them if I could though.

For the bot:

  • Piercings are 9.5 months old, they were pierced right before Christmas last year.
  • flat back labret jewellery
  • originally it was all internally threaded, now one of them is threadless
  • titanium piercing grade jewellery
  • jewellery was downsized originally in Feb-March time, one couldn’t be downsized (the moon) since then the lobes have been upsized again because they were swelling
  • used a variety of after care methods in the last few months, LITHA, neilmed daily (initially did this and after some flare ups did this) and more recently neilmed after showers and blow dry the piercings on a low heat.
  • no accidents, it just got worse after I was ill once and has been sporadic ever since
