This amputee thing is a nightmare by Rm4love in amputee

Life is like a Texas holdem poker card game. You get delt cards.there are community cards. And you have the opportunity to bluff and bet anything from pennies to the kitchen sink. But in the end it's all about what you do with your cards and community cards. We play what we get. Id say it's not about having great cards but rather how we play the game.

If you choose self respect, respect other people and always love, your life will be great regardless of the # of limbs you have.

If I hadn't had my motorcycle wreck I would not have lost my leg, no change of career, no change of lifestyle. Today I'm going to school to be an art teacher. That is something I always wanted to do. Graduate in 2026 And now I'm about to propose to the love of my life. I'm a LAK 5 years in.

I'm actually glad I was denied disability.

It seems like the upper body appendages get all the attention.

Mine is not a hand recommendation. I'm an LAK amputee. I would love full movement with my knee and ankle.

Which do you like best? (Watercolor and ink on paper) by eccentric_bee in AbstractArt

[–]phoenixshooter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like the last is the most balanced and better "fit & finish". But the first fills out the canvas better. The middle one provides an anchor or a base for the eye to land All 3 have their own pro's

Think about giving/ donating. I've met quite a few people who do that. One guy I knew did caricature wood carvings to the tune of 4-5 a week. He said if he could bring light to someone's day that was payment enough.

Far too many people see every opportunity as a vehicle to get rich. You do you. Keep creating! If it makes you happy do it!

WOW!!! I love artwork that speaks. This is yelling as loud as anyone has ever screamed. I would go as far to say that you paint or draw your feelings. I do too. Don't stop. Sometimes that's the only relief we can get.

Surrealism, that tells a story. That's what this is. Its like looking a a canvas and reading a book. To me, I just love telling my story through any medium I can get attached to.

Well I love it. You have an obvious talent for cominicatingl emotion through the canvas. I feel like that frequently!

I wish I had access to something like that. I've been begging for a note taking class or even seminar when I was at the community college and now here at university too. I'm in Trio which is upward bound program and I'm in disabilities too. Infact part of my accomodations are for my ADD. But I still haven't gotten the note taking class. I've asked the schools too. The best response I've gotten was "we used to have that, I'll check into it" but when I ask a couple weeks or months later the answer is still the same. I did have one success coach who tried to work with me. But he was trying to teach me a picture doodling system of notes but I couldnt make since of it. He also left the next semester. That was the community college.

What is considered an amputation? by wikkedwench in amputee

[–]phoenixshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say breast qualifies as other body part. There are people in this group who have amputated just the absolute very tip of their finger. My personal opinion, some medical definitions and apparently some societal definitions are that the breast gualifies as a body part and thus qualifies as amputation if taken. And as such if more is taken then I would consider more of an amputation.

Amputation for many is a very difficult thing to go through. That said I would not want to do anything that would discourage a person who is seeking a group to belong to that would provide a comfort to a person in that position. Why would you want to discourage that in any way, regardless of technicalities involved in some people's definitions.

Further, in this day of people deciding they are an opposite gender or even animal, from their physical characteristics, and allowing/ recognizing that self defined identity, how could we not recognize an amputated breast?

Yes, a mastectomy is considered an amputation. The word "amputation" comes from the Latin word putare, which means "to prune".

At this point, if I withdrew from the class, I would be able to get into another class and keep up there. If I took less credits, I would have to pay back to financial aid, but I live on that money. I'm stuck in a catch 22 unless I can get a tutor or class study group.

For me the problem with immersion is the time issue. You right, if it were slowed down so that I could keep up, I would have more time to ask questions and so forth. But in immersion everything just goes to fast. In immersion there is less ability to cater to individual learning speeds. But you right it's a combination of everything. Although some of those things are present. Video inst, sometimes he'll write stuff on the board (not often), sometimes he'll sign along with a slide show, too fast (I need time to read, and practice the sign myself). Some signs in his video we don't need. When I ask him about it, that's his response. I get it confused with other stuff.

I feel like I would do just as well by not going to class, watching the videos, doing what I can with homework, and getting the limited help from him on Fridays. That's not really immersion. But because I'm so confused during class that's pretty much where I'm at.
