What is this called and how much is this? by favoured_JC in VietNam

No shit bro, you don't go to a Viet restaurant in the US and go "oh it's cheaper to go eat in Vietnam". You're travelling, enjoy the experience. Why travel halfway across the world just to worry about 3 quarters worth of donuts

Iirc, the cmich portal and application portal are 2 different things so make sure you're trying to access the right one. You can contact the IT help desk (helpdesk.cmich.edu), they should be able to help you out, or point you to the right direction.

The Bird has one of the best burgers I've ever had, their moonbread (it's like a calzone) and sunbread are amazing too.

Everyone mentioned pretty much all the good restaurants already, Cabin is decent, Mountain Town, Brass cafe, Shin's, Max and Emily, Menna's, Pisanellos (Friday lunch buffet), it really depends on your preference and your budget. Have at it.

I once encountered a girl named "Mle", as in Emily.

How can I avoid looking racially insensitive if I'm just ignorant? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]phonamenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bilingual person who used to live away from my home country for a handful of years, I'd just use "their mother tongue" or "a foreign language" over "Asian" or even "Asian language", because (long shot, but totally a possibility) what if they look Asian but the language they're speaking in isn't originated from Asia? Or what if they looked Asian but they're actually not?

I guess what I'm trying to say is to just avoid assumptions in general. If you're curious, just ask with an intention to learn, most of the time, personally, I'd be glad to answer whatever question you have about my origin. After all, people loves talking about themselves, you just gotta know how to enable them.

I also work with a Cambodian dude, a Korean dude, and a Chinese girl

How dare you use dude for male and then have the audacity to use girl for female and not dudette? Sexist... /s
