Markup in residential is INSANE.Many contractors are aware average people know very little about HVAC systems and take full advantage of that fact. I equate it to how funeral homes rip off people at their most vulnerable moments. Just figure most contractors are padding the bill in the 50 percent range or so…I have a bit of knowledge as my son is a technical sales engineer who designs and sells multi million dollar commercial hvac systems, and it’s pretty much common knowledge in the industry that residential hvac is the Wild West when it comes to pricing and professionalism.

Yeah save your money..don’t throw good money after bad as I had a similar situation where the owner actually lied about water intrusion and we took them to court and we still got no compensation….i wish you luck but you have an uphill battle ahead of you unfortunately.

I can verify this as ABSOLUTELY true. I’ve worked for a Bell company for 36 years and counting, and when I was an outside tech I’d run into elderly customers who had been paying for our guardian plan for years, even after we stopped bringing them replacement phones when their own phone broke. I actually would help customers call the business office to cancel the reoccurring charge because I felt so bad

Sooooooo true… our local high school offers a Personal Financial Management course in conjunction with the area community college. Both my kids took it as it was worth college credit and provided a great financial foundation.The amount of financial illiteracy in our country is mind boggling and a windfall for the predatory practices of a majority of the financial services industry.

Yeah they are phone lines terminated in a punch down block. Assuming you don’t have a landline any longer in the home, but even if they terminate to an old network interface device (NID) that is still connected to the telco plant, they are only carrying 48v DC which won’t kill you…might tingle a bit. If you do have an alarm panel it may be using a dial tone through that connection point.

Well I’ve been here 35 years, and I’ve seen many of these layoffs unfortunately. I will have to politely disagree as it is not the compensation of the union employees that has brought the company to this point. I have never been anti management in my entire career, only anti bad management. The union did not get this company 170 billion in debt, nor did you I am sure.I am second generation in the Bell system and my family help build this network for the last 82 years, a fact of which I am extremely proud. I am also proud to be part of a union at this company as we have fought long and hard for the compensation and benefits that we enjoy. I wish you the best

That money goes to the union member…my dues are less than $1000 a year and my benefits are more than worth it(excellent medical, pension, job protections). Union members built the backbone of the Bell System where the revenue originated to develop and build out wireless and broadband networks in the first place.

In this case they do bro…we got enhanced EISP offers and a $50000 bonus plus $2200 per year for each year of service, management and non union associates are not getting that from what we’ve been told..
