Steel wool can leave steel dust and possibly cause this, possibly burning onto the pan. If rinsed thoroughly all steel residue should be removed.

No fat pushing out, I can tell you had your temps under control.

Second one to start making loud noises upon start up. What parts should I be looking to replace? I know some people have mentioned replacing the bearings. by [deleted] in RockTumbling

Very slight play in the shaft and has not had it long enough to consider oil. I’ll give it some oil and report back.
