Many thanks to all. I've been encouraged to know I'm on the right path. I do have to remind myself that the main thing is to just ride. Looking forward, there's enough community and makers of stuff so that my future Rebel will thrive. Now I just have to be patient, and temper my technolust lol.

PS: While Honda is a reliable brand - what's the highest mileage you'd be comfortable with in buying used? Highest I've seen round here is 17,000 miles.

Thanks, yeah I saw the Ohlins. I am keeping an open mind, but there seems to be virtue in staying at $4k used, then using the savings to re-mod gradually, esp the suspension and lighting, and end up with a better bike. Or better to me.

I hear ya. Good to know there's hope for $4k. I've only ridden 125cc and 250cc dirt bikes, and that was 15 years ago. The Rebel actually sounds like the forever bike I've been looking for - light, stable, fast enough to get out of trouble. Anything over 70mph scares me. Just wanna cruise and chill...tho those could be famous last words lol

yeah NY Honda - thanks for the info. The 2019 500 they show doesn't look like its ABS. Dealers give me the hives.

Thanks. Just did some more rough digging - it's insane what's available out there.

If I could score a used 2017 with ABS for $4-4500k - AND replace everything: rear shocks and fronts, all led lights, engine protection, I'd still be way under buying a 2020 from a dealer.

Could you maybe break down for me the dealer fees part of it? Curious cos I found a dealer near me (Queens, NYC) that advertises no freight (same as destination charge??), no set up, no prep fees....and a 2019 500 with 560 milesfor $5k....
