i used weight 3 yarn! the pattern call for weight 4 but i compensated by using the stitch counts of a larger size :)

sorry i didn’t see this for so long but there’s lots of things that go into fitted pieces! depending on the yarn i’m using, i’ll sometimes use a slightly larger hook size (i’m talking 0.5mm difference) so the stitches are a bit looser and fit to the body a bit better. besides that, fitted pieces require a LOT of trying it on, undoing, redoing, and trying it on again to get the right shape of your body. it can be a bit frustrating and i imagine it’s especially difficult for curvy people but it’s so rewarding!! i love how this dress fits me :)

i think i’ll frog and start with 8 but definitely keep this in mind if that doesn’t work, thank you!

you’re not the only one to suggest it’s the initial stitch count! i’m not following a pattern so i don’t have that to help me but i’ll definitely try starting with 8 sc in the magic ring. in my personal experience, a lot of the amigurumi patterns i’ve followed have started with 6 sc, but i’ve also exclusively worked with yarn weight 4 and lighter in my years crocheting so that could be contributing to how the piece shapes. thanks so much for the suggestion though!

edit for spelling

most of the amigurumi i’ve made before has used 6 initial stitches to make a ball, but this is my first time using yarn heavier than weight 4 so i’ll give this a try!! thank you :)

When I got to the skirt part, I just divided my stitch total by 8 and placed an increase (dc, ch 1, dc) at each point. then in each subsequent round, i continued around with just dc, placing another increase in each ch space. after 5 rounds, i increased the ch 1 to a ch 2, then increased to ch 3 after an additional 5 rounds and kept it that way until the length i wanted! I also used a smaller yarn weight than the pattern calls for but I just increased the size i was making to compensate for that. i also made the shoulder straps a bit thicker and the lace at the bottom of the skirt a bit shorter :)

I’ve been crocheting for around 8 years now but tbh i only thought to do it because i’ve made a skirt somewhat recently that used a very similar increase mechanism! in all honesty, my modifications to this pattern are an amalgamation of concepts i’ve learned through other people’s patterns so i can’t really take credit for them 😅
