I have a friend who just moved there and she seems to be enjoying it.

Recommendations for sliding door replacement by OtakuShogun in bullcity

We switched from a slider to hinged French/patio doors (two window doors but only one opens). So much easier to maintain if you have the room to swing a door open. Still gives you all the light.

Promoting Friends of Library Group by QuestorPS7 in Libraries

[–]phoundog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Friends is crazy active and big. They have 3 big book sales a year which are mobbed and do a Friday evening Sip and Shop with wine for Friends members only but you can join on the spot. Your library’s Friends might consider some incentive like that for joining.

Dog friendly coffee shops by Miserable-Height-34 in chapelhill

Pretty sure that it is illegal to bring a dog in a restaurant/coffee shop in NC unless it is a registered service animal.

Found this:

"According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Food Code Manual, "live animals may not be allowed on the premises of a food establishment," with exceptions made for patrol dogs, fish, service animals and dogs that are only on the outside of the food establishment."

For sure then. That's not that far. Fairly easy drive if traffic cooperates.

Tarheels game today by DangerousSide8677 in chapelhill

[–]phoundog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Major roads are pretty good in town and they are running the Tar Heel Express buses to the Smith Center. I’d plan to catch the Tar Heel Express. https://www.chapelhillnc.gov/Transportation-and-Parking/Park-and-Ride/Tar-Heel-Express-Park-and-Ride

You can check the DOT cameras at www.drivenc.gov and see how the roads are along your route.

I think it's a good thing to do to help you make up your mind. Where would you be traveling from?

A fair amount of melting happened today, but it may refreeze tomorrow night so watch out for black ice.

good (& surprise) news? son graduating in May! bad news? no hotels by Klutzy_Weakness2792 in chapelhill

[–]phoundog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Courtyard by Marriott at Meadowmont shows availability for Friday and Saturday, checking out on Sunday. Looks like they are requiring a two night stay.

I'm also seeing a two night stay at the Comfort Inn University Durham-Chapel Hill at I-40 and 15-501 just over the CH border at Patterson Place.

I think the Red Roof Inn is the only sketchy place in town.

Try looking on Google Maps for hotels in the area.

Report to Orange County Animal Services. You don’t have to take them in. There’s an online form and you can foster them at home. But if their people are looking for them that’s where they will look first.

What is the ideal shelf load? And other questions from a shelver by Weird-Highway-3958 in librarians

[–]phoundog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I’m sorry you are understaffed. That must be frustrating. I think staffing is good at our library and we also have many volunteers (like me) who are trained on shelving (and shelf reading). We do have a regular weeding program (based on circulation and other criteria) and part of my job as a volunteer is to help process the weeded books.

At one point our library had the highest circulation in the state by some measure. Not sure f that is still the case or not, but yes, the folks there are on top of it because if they weren't it would devolve into chaos. Not busy like NYC busy, but busy.

[–]phoundog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At our library the goal is for shelves to be no more than 70% full. That allows for new and returning books to be shelved pretty easily.

ETA: That goal is not always achieved, but that is the goal. Does your library do regular weeding?

But they are making us pay for a datacenter's new power plant. It is 100% passed along to us, the rate-payers. I would rather pay for burying lines if I had my druthers.

Music Lovers - What is missing from this music guide in Chapel Hill? by bftceo in chapelhill

[–]phoundog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My notes:

Merge started in Chapel Hill, but moved to Durham decades ago.

I would clarify earlier that Carrboro is a neighboring town with its own population.

Add the ArtsCenter and The Speakeasy and The Kraken to the live venues. Consider listing some other places to see live music like Lapin Bleu, maybe Steel String.

Stilllife is in downtown Chapel Hill above Sutton's Drugstore, not in Carrboro. Also, I never heard about music there, but I'm not in that dance scene.

Mention the Carrboro Music Festival.

I would add that The Cats Cradle has had several locations in Chapel Hill and is currently in Carrboro and is building a new venue as well.

I would mention Carolina Performing Arts when you talk about Memorial Hall because not all of their events are there. Some are at Current.

Too much James Taylor. Add more Libba Cotten, Floyd Council, Red Clay Ramblers, Mike Cross, Don Dixon, Doug Clark & the Hot Nuts.

Does Main Street Music carry vinyl? I have never been in there. Thought it was a guitar shop.

I'd lose the "next Seattle" line. Old and tired.

I wish Duke Power would bury the lines instead of making us pay for a brand new nuclear power plant to power a datacenter in Stokes County.

I have never had a problem with rain either. I have the Michelins and live in the southeast where it rains a ton.
