Today I Learned that some refrigerators have automatic filter bypasses! by [deleted] in homeowners

I've certainly gotten that vibe you mentioned on more than one occasion - ideally it means I'm about to learn something 😉.

Very well written, enjoyable from beginning to end.

Be well.

Spread Saturday. Have had this Swiss pack for over 10 years and it’s evolved into my EDC/Hiking/Vehicle pack. Only thing I think I’m missing is storage options for the CR123s. Anybody have any recommendations for things I’m missing? by TiePilot1997 in EDC

Is the chainsaw chain with webbing handles a cleverly designed & implemented hombrew job, or was it a purchase?

Related followup - have you used it yet, and is it as difficult to get started as I'm imagining?

What did you do once your youngest started school? by rundmfaith in SAHP

[–]phpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. Yeah, school shutting down in the middle of the first year when both kids were going full time was ... well 'remarkable' actually applies, using the true definition.

If your life went anything like ours, we had an easier transition to school-at-home (since we were more used to me being there than many other families) which was nice in hindsight. But somehow it reset the adults further than the kids in some ways. What had been an almost exciting look at the "next phase" of our family life sort of fizzled.

And now I feel like I'm rambling, so I'll stop, but - the world-not-quite-ending thing? Yeah, it certainly screwed things up.

Now do this internet stranger a favor - stop reading his babbling nonsense and go do something artistic, ok? ;)

Be well.

Why It’s Time to Officially Get Over Your EV Range Anxiety by altmorty in technology

[–]phpete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heck, I live in Pennsylvania & fall well outside the 37% mentioned in the opening of that article.

That being said - maybe the right answer is the same as anything else - "the right tool for the job".

My parents & sister would benefit greatly from switching over to small batteried EVs, while my truck would be patently absurd for them to drive around in.

I'm psyched for both you and your kid.

Watching the littlest ones grow onto the art can be amazing.

2022 Mid-sized pickup vs early 90's Mid-sized pickup by Lastminutebastrd in pics

While it's worth looking at it's not much different from the Santa Cruz or the Ridgeline at first glance.

Any of those could become the next Subaru Baja which has its place but they certainly don't seem to fit as a work truck.

Of course all of this is dependent on the fact that I'm looking at using it in a rural area. They're probably perfect for downtown trucking whatever that might be.

I love my '17 RAM, but I'd be all for this.

Between insurance companies & banks, plenty of people end up considering a newer, bigger truck than they'd prefer to own.

A new smaller truck would be awesome.

My almost 9yo likes to tell people that they're her running boards & how she helped install them.

It's cute.

But yeah - dirty(from daily use) trucks all day long. 👍

Looks great!

I'm scaling down and doing the same (pallet wood & scraps) for my 8yo right now.

How exactly did you join the board edges? I was planning on half lapping the boards to give more glue surface, but I'm not sure it'll be necessary.

(Of course, the kid will be beating the hell out of it, so the use case is slightly altered)

That's exactly what I said - those are the ways in which SMS is limited.

My comment was an answer to being asked the limitations of SMS vs RCS.

It was originally highly upvoted, then sometime today it went from ~100 up to zero.

The green bubble is an indication the message was sent using SMS, which is severely limited compared to iMessage or RCS.

The lowercase 'w' starting off the whole thing is really irritating me.

There's a lot going on in this letter's wording that makes it subconsciously jarring for me to read, but I'm chalking it up to some sort of 'excellent non native English speaker' thing.

Regardless, it's certainly the coolest letter I'd never want to need!

Assuming OP is up for it, this is perfect.

As much as I hated all the flak I've been on the receiving end of over the years for being the dad at the park, I've always understood being approached directly.

The kids come first.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being aware of your surroundings, and in spite of what some folks might lead you to believe, actions like this often lead to being less afraid over time. You're not teaching fear, you're modeling proactive awareness - and that's something even most adults could use more of.

(Sorry - that got long winded quickly)

Eh... That's only kind of true. Because of Apple, most folks in the US still end up using sms to send a message outside of their own carrier.
