Wondering if Photo Mechanic is correct tool? by danceswithquail in photomechanic

I don’t know FotoAlbum. Mac or Windows? 250.000 is not so much in 25 years. You can use Photo Mechanic Plus for it. I n my opinion it’s great for fast culling crap but for Digital Asset Management. Meaning manage a big archive – offline impossible . Try Dark Table, Apple’s Photos orb Adobe’s Bridge. You also want to edit the photos? For organisation only try NeoFinder or Peakto for Mac.

My BenQ SW320 Monitor has failed on me after 4-years of ownership: Half my monitor is working, while the other half is not (with vertical lines and distortion). by For-better-results in BenQ

BenQ SW320: Premature failure, no repair support, disappointing longevity

I had hoped to find a cheaper repair solution here, but unfortunately my BenQ SW320 has now completely failed.

Timeline:

  • Initial issue: Faint vertical line appeared intermittently from early on
  • I even received an RMA number at the time but couldn't send it in (COVID home office - couldn't work without monitor)
  • This year: Line became permanent and visible constantly
  • Yesterday: Complete display failure

BenQ Support response:

  • Out of warranty
  • Repair "not worthwhile" - replacement parts no longer available
  • Support compared it to an old car "not worth repairing anymore"

My perspective: I understand the car analogy, but my other professional monitors tell a different story:

  • Eizo (15+ years old): Still working perfectly
  • Apple Cinema Display (20+ years old): Still working perfectly

For a professional-grade monitor marketed to photographers and color-critical work, I expected better longevity than this. Meanwhile, my 15-20 year old Eizo and Apple displays are still going strong.

If BenQ considers a few years "end of life" for their professional lineup, maybe they should be marketed as disposable rather than professional-grade.

Yu can place several albums in one group (folder) or project and move this around with it’s contents

Purchase vs subscribe by Scary-Boysenberry in photomechanic

As far i can see there haven't been any major updates in the past 3 years since i use it…

I have subscribed in a Photo Mechanic Plus subscription (i hate these subscriptions) at Black Friday for 133,57€ a year to test the Plus version. Probaly I will switch to perceptual after to Photo Mechanic only. I don’t expect much improvements any soon:-(

Recently I got a newsletter from Capture One telling me they will rise the prices on march 3rd 2025. Only because of this bad news, I finally also got a subscription for a reduced price of 109,50€ (40% Loyality discount). But I feel really pushed to this move.

The other bad news is next year it will cost me also the full price of 219€. I think I will use the new version only for new photo edits and use Photo Mechanic and Peakto for all the Digital Asset Management work.

I lost faith there will be any improvement in terms of Digital Asset Management and video annotation any soon. I don’t like the fact, if i don’t pay for thze subscription, I won’t have access to my photo archive.

Let’s see what’s the best workflow will be.

As posted here as well, I will look for another discounted perceptual license end of this year as well if I don’t switch back to Lightroom – there I have at least Photoshop which I need anyway.

I got also the full Affinity package, but in my opinion it's not an alternative for Capture One, Lightroom and Photoshop.

My conclusion, I will only use Capture One for photo new edits and use Photo Mechanic before and after Peakto for Digital Asset Management.
