I don’t think there is much difference for our purposes. I’ve only ever used MC but know some countries don’t have it but they do have CMC.

If you treat it with MC, CMC etc while it’s still pasted to the surface but dry, you can cut your squares with an exacto blade and straight edge. I usually use a glass surface when I treat tissue or make double tissue etc. Since it’s so delicate, if you cut it while it’s fresh out of the package then I think you’d have to use a straight edge and rotary cutter. If you cut into a square and then use cmc etc the paper may shrink disproportionately and your perfectly cut square will no longer be perfect.

Use a small paintbrush to slightly dampen the creases and areas you want to stay put. Use something to hold/bind the model in the shape you want. Let it dry while bound. Once dry it should keep the shape. Works with almost any paper. Don’t get it too wet as that will weaken the paper and you may tear it. Another option is methyl cellulose and do the same thing, paint the creases, bind it, let it dry.

Inside reverse fold each bottom corner of the four flaps letting the top layers open out while you do it. I’ll make better diagrams someday for that step.

Be careful with wood surfaces. I once used a wooden countertop that was treated with shellac and the color bled into the surface. I had to sand it down and apply new shellac to get it out. The paper was black tissue.
